Anyone had success with poor quality embryos?

Post by Louise35 »

Hi

I am on day 4 of 2ww after transferring 2 embryos. I only produced 3 follicles after max drugs, I had 2 poor quality eggs which fertilized. The embryologist informed me they were poor quality embryos and she hadn't expected either egg to fertilize. She only told me about the quality when I pushed for an answer. I was told not to worry too much about the quality but reading all the forums everyone says it's not the quantity but quality and I can't stop worrying that they are too poor to implant.

Does anyone have any success stories or know of someone who has ?

I would greatly appreciate any support. Thanks

We had "poor quality" embroys

Post by txpacotaco »

Hi -

I had 12 eggs. 6 fertilized, however, cell division didn't occur as rapidly as they would have liked and there was a lot of fragmentation. They decided to do our transfer on day 3 with the 5 embroys that remained. Those embroys were 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 cells and all had a lot of fragmentation. In other words, all of them were poor quality (some poorer than others).

Two weeks later we had a positive beta :-)

Our embryologist explained that fragmentation can be temporary and that sometimes the fragmented cells even reform into normal cells. He said the embroys with few cells could possibly even be just slow growers. I read similar information on the Internet. We walked away from the transfer with the knowledge that once the eggs actually fertilize and the embroys are transferred there are still a huge number of uncontrollable things that happen - still a lot of "magic".

Important to know: embryo "quality" bears no scientific relationship to the health of the future babies.

Hang in there. I don't think your doctor would have transferred the embryos if s/he didn't believe there was a chance they would implant.

Good luck and best wishes to you!!

Hi Rachel, I was just wondering, did you use your own eggs? This is so encouraging to me, as I'll be 40 next week, and I'm in the middle of my cycle with my own eggs. I'm very concerned because of my age. I was so excited to hear of your BFP.

Yeah, that's awesome! CONGRATS! I have 13 follicles, and am looking at retrieval probably Thursday. I'm thinking HCG tonight. I was so encouraged reading your post!

Rachel did you do any other procedure, like icsi or assisted hatching. Did they do a 3 or 5 day transfer. You might have said that already. If so, sorry. Janice

poor egg quality

Post by NEN »

Hi! This is my first time on this site and I am happy to be here. I just finished my second IVF. I was encouraged by Rachel's response as well because we were told a few days ago that the quality was not good, and I am feeling pretty hopeless. We had 11 follicles, they retrieved 10, 8 fertilized and 7 of those 8 were normal. So we thought we had a lot to work with but when we got to the office on Day 3 for the transfer, the MD told us that none of them really divided like he would have expected. He implanted three embryos which were at the 4-cell stage. I am feeling awful because these results were worse than the first IVF we did. Anyone else have any experiences like this?
