Help on 2ww

Post by Jen1d »

Hi girls

Am on my 3rd cycle of ivf and go to hosp for EC tomorrow then ET on Thursday.
Wanted some good advice about two things

1) Whats the best to eat on 2ww and what to avoid

2) Do you all rest for the whole 2ww or do you go out or go to work.

Usually i always give up coffee during my cycles and try to eat more fruit and veg.
I normally stay resting for the first week then sometimes go out for walks in the second week. However i feel i am counting the hours until the preg test and given my acu makes us wait 16 days before we can take it, its hell. Do you think i could go back to work for a couple of days?

Thanks for your help, i know i would get the best advice here.

Love Jen x

Hi jen

good luck with your EC tomorrow and ET thursday.

I've only been through one cycle of IVF so my experience is limited on the 2 ww although it was the longest time of my life!

I had the ET on the Monday and took Tuesday off and then went back to work on the Wed and carried on as normal (it helped pass away the hours). I did stop going to the gym but made sure that I kepted walking to get some gently exercise.

As for food, I stopped eating all the types of foods that you shouldn't eat whilst pg, eg shellfish, certain cheeses etc. I also switched to non caffenine drinks and drank lots of water. I had stopped drinking alcohol when I started treatment.

my clinic just advised to carry on as normal but not to over do it such as run a marathon !!

You need to just listen to your body, I found that it told me when I was over doing things and when i needed to rest.

I hope everything goes well for you and wish you loads of luck.

Hi Jen,

I hope your 3rd time will be your lucky one...

Throughout all the treatment and 2ww, I tried to eat rather healthy, but if I'd fancied some chocolate or sweets from time to time, I allowed myself to. I do not drink coffee, but if I did, I would have tried to stop or slow down if too hard to stop. But I think the most important is to try to be relax, so if you need your morning coffee for that, I am sure it is fine.

For my first IVF, I was told to stay in bed for 3 days. I was allowed to get up only to go to the loo and eat... Now I realised that it added a lot of pressure on me and it got to the point that I was scared of every single moves I was making.

My 2nd Ivf was a shot for nothing because we did not have any fertilisation

so I decided for the 3rd go to take it easy but continue things as usual. I had a nap after my ET because I was tired. But then I did normal things, walk around the house, go shopping (no heavy bags though!) drove around, did a minimum of housework. If I felt tired I'd stopped, but most of the time I was ok. I tried to keep myself occupied so the 2ww would feel quicker, it was definitely easier than the my first 2ww!

I hope it helps
best of luck with your EC

Jen,

I know you know some of my story already, but I figured I should throw in a few 2ww pointers. My ER was on Wednesday and the ET was on Thursday. Needless to say, I stayed down Thursday - Saturday morning. Saturday, I had a really good cry and a great shower and started doing a few things. By Sunday, I was bored and started cooking. Monday, I went to work and even worked late (actually, I had a work dinner engagement twice that week.) I returned to all of my normal activities, including Cub Scouting. I kept myself very busy for the entire 2ww. I had too, since I was certain it wouldn't work. I did everything I would have done if we had tried naturally and were awaiting AF. I was lucky, because mine seems to want to stick around, but I just went on as usual (minus the sex and exercise, my two stress relievers  ). I did manage to survive and I wish you all the best.

 Thanks girls for your help

Seems its just luck eh?

Think i'm going to go into work somedays and keep myself busy. I'm always scared of the 2nd week though as this is when AF always shows its ugly head  So i think i will stay around the house then.
Must be positive though---AF IS NOT COMING THIS TIME, RIGHT  ?

Thanks

2ww

Hi everyone.
I had my EC yesterday and had a call today to say that my ET will be taking place Saturday morning. I am going to be taking the 2ww off work and taking it easy. People say to me why don't you go to work to take your mind off things but I can't. I really enjoy looking at this messageboard because a lot of advice is given.
