Need Advice how to find OB

Post by cowgirlclass »

You ladies have been so helpful throughout treatmeant and waiting and such and you all seem so experienced in this areana I am hoping you can help! :-)

Okay my dilema...I did my fertility treatmeant through a military facility, they did a great job and I am not 7 1/2 weeks PG. I have been released to the OB department and can not do anything there till I go through an orientation on Nov. 15 which starts my OB records. I have only had one scan but everything was so good they released me so I am done with the RE and of course worring about everything. There is more... I only have military health coverage through the end of March. I am due in June. I can pick up company health insurance starting Jan 1 but that is 3 extra months I will have to pay for. I think I am leaning towards doing that but I have been in the military system sooooooooooooo long, I don't even know how to find a GOOD OB doc. I know of one but it is in the medical district and it is such a pain driving in that area, have to pay for parking blah blah blah. Am I being picky? Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks in advance,
Cowgirl

Cowgirlclass,

Based on your name, I am going to assume you live in the Southwest. I live in Houston, TX and I have a primary care physician that I love and trust. She has been our rock since we moved here over 2 years ago. She gave me a couple of names for OB/Gyn's in fact, she is the one who recommended our RE. I have my first appointment on Nov 16, but I am going then so I can meet the DR and see if she has the same priorities and beliefs as me. I am a special case and I was to do VBAC, but I have had two previous C-Sections. With this said, I refuse to have a DR that will not allow me to have a trial of labor this time.

Make a list of your priorities and what you want from your OB and make sure you ask them this. Just because you have one appointment with them, doesn't mean you have to stay with them!

Good Luck!

cmoscar, I would like to find a doc that believe a vaginal delivery is best too. I would like them to have there own ultra sound machine. I just don't have a none military doc to ask. You just gave me an idea though. My IVF coordinator was awesome and she was a civilian contractor maybe she can point me towards someone. :-)

Do you think it would be best for me to pay the extra 3 months and get in with an OB now or will it not matter much waiting till march? Thoughts & opinions welcome!

I am in San Antonio text right down the road from Housten :-)

I personally would pay for the three months and find a DR I am going to stay with. I like to build the kind of relationship my DR where he/she knows me by name when they see me. I hate it when they have to look at the chart to find out what my name is. It is up to you though!

I also love San Antonio! In fact, my family and one other are camping there the week of Thanksgiving so we can visit some of the caverns around that area. I loved the riverwalk areas and the history as well.

Good Luck

Yes I was definately leaning towards getting a doc in Jan. I am hoping to get my inial screening done before leaving the military and then taking my records and getting established with new doc. :-) I am hoping my IVF coordinator can recommend someone. :-)

Thanks for the input,
