Early HCG Testing Dilemma-HELP

Post by MidwifeMom »

I have a dilemma I want some advice about. I had my retrieval on October 30 and had a three day tranfer on November 2. My HCG shot was given on 10/28. The clinic made an error and told me to come back 12 days later (which would be 11/14) but they wrote 11/12 on the paper and booked my blood test that day. I know the HCG will be out of my system by 11/11 so I am tempted to go in and get the blood drawn on the earliest date possible. Even if its really low, I know then that I shouldn't freak out. I have been pregnant before and already feel like crap. I had three transferred and I really think someone took. Any advice??? I'm leaning towards having the test!!! :o

That's a good question. I mean, some clinics do the Beta that soon (or sooner) anyway. I assume the HCG would be out of your system by then. The only real concern is that you might get a false negative. You could always get a HPT that claims to detect HCG early, but it too could give you a false negative. I am going for my Beta tomorrow & I resisted the urge to get an HPT. I guess I'll know soon enough. :? I had a Frozen ET on 10/27. Good Luck to you & God Bless! :D

Hello

I would not advise anyone to do an HTP earlier than the test date. I think it would be harder to get a false answer than to wait 1 or 2 extra days... Even if you do test earlier, you will wonder if it is the correct result and you will worry even more until your blood test!

As for the HCG shot, I know it was out of my system about 1 week after my ET. I was hospitalised because of OHSS, and I gave a urine sample and it came back negative. The week after, i got a positive on my test date...

SO I dont know if the HCG can stay longer in different people...

Good luck and take care

I'd go for the test. Your HCG would show if you were pregnant by then, as you say if only by low numbers they would still be high enough to indicate a pregnancy.

I definately wouldn't do a HPT. It could be too early for one of them, bloods would show a positive but a HPT could show a false negative. My clinic only advises you to do a HPT on day 16 - although I was doing them from day 7 I didn't get a positive until day 10 but some people get a negative on a HPT then go in for bloods on the same day and get a positive!

Best of luck to you

Worried

Post by MidwifeMom »

Well, I did the pregnancy test the last two days and had a very weak positive. I did these at my office and they were qualitative serum tests. I did a urine HPT and it was compl;etely negative, so I was thinking it would be a definite turn positive today. I had my ET on 11/2 so I am just praying I did it too early (and am kicking myself also). Do you think there is any hope????
