Hi,

This is a similar story to mine (see my profile below ), we have been trying to conceive since 2000!! I had a severe ectopic pregnancy last year in February, which resulted in an emergency operation and the left tube being removed completely. After trying to conceive unsuccessfully with one tube we turned to IVF to see if it would help us out.

I can provide you with encouragement that the IVF procedure is not as bad as it sounds - the injections, collection of egg cells, transfer etc.. are all manageable. Just be sure to stay in close contact with your doctor and report any problems throughout the treatment.

I can forewarn to be realistic about how you think - try to remain as balanced as possible - do not be too negative, but try also not to be overly positive. Unfortunately our first attempt resulted in a BFN i.e a big fat negative ! I am now about 10 -11 days after receipt of the bad news and feel heaps better - it is very difficult to cope with receiving a negative result, but time in my case heals. Every day I get stronger and I am almost back to my usual self now.

Some advice - something I learned with the first attempt. Make sure you get thoroughly checked before hand for anything that could prevent the IVF from being a success - some clinics insist this is done beforehand anyway, but as mine did not, I went rushing headlong into the IVF with no thorough checks done to me. So the next step for me is a laproscopy to check to see if the other tube is blocked and to check to see that the uterus and the neck of the womb etc.. ok is. I will also get tested to see if I am immune etc.. and if I am producing enough of the correct hormones at the correct times.

But we are all here to help - and some ladies have been through worse than me and still manage to stay strong. It is definately worth a try and I am hoping for the best!

Luv Bekki xx

Hello Bekki!

Thanks for a reply, sorry to hear of your experience with an ectopic. I know what you went through. Boy was it terrible, I was able to save my left tube where the pregnancy was located. Though I have my left tube My Doctor told me it will not be working and for my right tube I have scaring, which starts my mission with IVF.

I do have faith in my first IVF, but I am preparing myself of the cycle not working the 1st round. I am praying for success.

I found out today that my 1st cycle is not starting until January now because of test that I have not done yet, I thought everything was ready to start in December but I was wrong. I will start Meds in January and hopefully ER in early February. Thanks for the advice I am looking through everything that needs to be done before the cycle.

I hope for a postive outcome on your 2nd round. Thanks.

January is not so far away - and although it is easier said than done- it is best not to rush. It is much better to get all necessary tests and things done first. If I have to repeat IVF - it will not be until atleast February. Best thing to do now, is to enjoy Christmas and New Year and start with this exciting 1st IVF attempt in January.

I also pray for success for you - as IVF does not alwys fail the first time round - plenty of women succeed with the first attempt too.

Take Care - and I will be thinking of you. Let us all know how it goes.

Bekki -X-
