Ultrasound for Gender Determination

Post by Lucyluna »

Hi everyone,

I have an ultrasound coming up soon and I was wondering if anyone has any helpful hints on how to get the baby to show it's stuff?! I know there is no solid way to tell, but I have heard rumors of the use of caffine. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone do anything that worked for them?

Thanks

Can't say I've heard of that one! A cold drink or something sweet beforehand should wake the baby up and make them move about so the chances of seeing are better...

I remember with Sam that he kept his flipping legs crossed the whole time. The sonographer suggested I empty my bladder to make him change position and it did work!

You might be lucky like we were this time - bum in the air and not afraid to show the goods   Think we have an exhibitionist this timw - hee-hee.

Good luck!

Hey Zoe, thanks for the ideas! That is cool how emptying your bladder changed things for you. Sugar probably does the same thing as a little caffine. I am sure a cup of decaf will do it since there is still a little caffine in it. Candy may be more fun to eat though!

LucyLuna,

I agree with Zoe, caffeine and sugar get my little guy moving. When I had my ultrasound, it was very apparent that he was a boy. He was not shy!! I had another ultrasound 3 weeks later and once again he had his family jewels displayed for all to see.

Good luck,
Tammy

Thanks for the recommendations! How long before the ultrasounds did you all have sugar, caffine, or OJ? On the way, before leaving the house, or just minutes before?

How many weeks along do you have to be before they can tell the gender on the ultrasound?

Becareful though as you don't want it moving in the wrong direction so you can't tell the sex!

When I went for my 20 week scan she was laying across me so they couldn't see. She was wiggling loads but not in the right direction. I went for a private scan a week later and she had her legs on her chest and you could see it very clearly.

When I had my other daughter I asked if they could see the sex but they couldn't but they also couldn't see something else so I was told to have a glass of water and a walk, when we went back they could see what they were looking for and also the sex.

Brit they can usually tell from around 14 weeks.

Lucy when's your scan?

My midwife said you could determine the sex as early as 13 weeks but it is rare. My scan is next Tuesday, so I will basically be right at 17 weeks. I was worried it was too early, but they assured me it was fine. We plan to do a private 3d scan later, so I can determine it then if needed. However, this is the last ultrasound I will get at my regular doctor, unless there are problems. So I really hope I can find out! That way I can save the 3d until a bit later in the pregnancy.

Thanks for your suggestions!
