Hi GSN,

I notice this is not a new post, but wanted to see if you have success? I have just commenced treatment with herbs and acupuncture, incorporating shiatsu and moxibustion. At 44 and after 4 failed IVF last year (3 ICSI) I am keen to try something to balance my system. Its a nice break for my body being off meds after a year of contstant TTC and the concept of TCM makes sense, its so simple it just might work :D

Hi there

Like Gail I'm enjoying Reflexology at the moment - I have been going for about 5 weeks and it is really relaxing.

I have heard a lot about acupuncture and believe it assists the body in much the same way as it channels through the meridians :!:

Let us know how you get on.

I am now visiting an acunpuncturist/chinese medicine doctor who is affiliated with my clinic. the first visit we went through my medical history and physical...she then pinpointed my issues:

1. very bad blood circulation - causing not enough blood to flow through womb and uterus and therefore not be able to carry an embryo...also the reason I am freezing ALL the time and my hands are always white/purple

2. weak stomache - my stomache doesn't digest food properly and therefore I am not getting the proper nutrition and therefore also can not sustain an embryo. I eat extremely healthy but if my body doesn't pull out the nutrients - well it doesn't help

3. stressed out liver function - not actually the liver itself but the function of cleaning the body (which the liver participates in)...basically prior to AF and during AF my body gets stressed and can not be cleaned out properly...reason for incredible PMS (anxious feeling and moody) and incredible cramps

she mentioned these were 3 major issues - but are fixable :P Yesterday I had my first acunpuncture treatment and I am an chinese herbs.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Nicki - no it is not good to start during your 2WW...but no worries for you - you will get a BFP and won't need acunpuncture :D

(My acu doc likes to start a couple of months prior to IVF....at first I thought it was good only for EC and ET but she likes to fix things prior to starting the cycle).

Good luck to everyone trying accupuncture and Chinese medicine generally. I was innitially told to give it 3 months, but unfortunately time is up. At 44 and no success I think its time I accepted my days of TTC are over. I must say my general well being improved greatly whilst on the treatment, however my partner was showing signs of feeling like a 'sex machine'. Best to cherish the relationship we have than put it under more strain than the 4 IVF attempts did.

acupuncture and infertility

Post by charlysteed »

Hi there

I am an acupuncturist and have spent this last year specialising in infertility, gynaecology and pregnancy. My research project was on 'the role of acupuncture in the treatment of endometriosis associated with infertility'. I thought it would be useful to share my results with you:

There is much research about the use of acupuncture and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) in the treatment of infertility, but to summarise, these are the findings:

1) Acupuncture reduces stress levels associated with infertility.
2) Acupuncture affects B-endorphin levels of the central nervous system, which in turn affect gonadotrophin (GnRH) secretion and the menstrual cycle. Acupuncture may thus influence ovulation and fertility.
3) Electro-acupuncture normalises dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian function and optimises pregnancy rate by thickening the endometrium, and reducing uterine artery blood flow.
4) Acupuncture may influence the pregnancy rates in patients undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

Some of these findings are documented in the article "Role of acupuncture in the treatment of female infertility." Fertility and Sterility, 2002, 78(6).

I have a my own practice in Blackheath, South East London and can be located via the internet by keying in my name, Charlotte Steed.

Many thanks
Charlotte Steed

Hello everyone

I am looking into starting acupunture before possible first cycle in sept. So far I have managed to locate a few clinics but do I need to find one who specialises in IVF? Our infertility is male factor so is it worth DH having it too?

Tracii interesting enough I seem to suffer from 2 of the things you do.
Being cold and white fingers and terrible PMS and cramping. Has you helped you?

Hi,

I have also been ot the acupuncturist for 2 treatments- she specializes in infertility.I also have symptoms similar to you all:

-cold fingers and feet
-PMS and bloating and sore breasts prior to AF- sometimes headaches.

Acu Doc said-
stagnant chi in Liver and spleen- not enough blood flow to the uterus.
which would explain why I have small fibroids.

My treament includes herbs three times a day after meals in warm water and she also uses a heating lamp on my midsection/belly during the acu session. She recommended a detox eating plan which I start tomorrow- no sweets at all, no dairy, no saturated fats,no alcohol, lots of lean meats, beans, grains and fruits & veggies, exercise and a heating pad on the belly regularly.
She said all this combined could help after 2-3 months.

Have your acu docs put you on this kind of diet??????????

I found an interesting site:
