HAS ANYONE HAD SUCCESS AFTER NO FERTILIZATION WHEN DOING IVF

Post by WISCONSINGAL »

WE DID 2 IUI'S NO SUCCESS.....WE DID THE DIE TEST......NO BLOCKAGE......MY DH HAS NO ISSUES. WE WERE IN OUR 1ST IVF CYCLE, WERE TOLD NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS. ALL THE LEVELS WERE GOOD, THE SIZE OF THE FOLICLES WERE GOOD, WHEN IT CAME TIME TO MIX.....THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. HAS ANYONE HAD SUCCESS AFTER THE 1ST FAILED FERTILIZATION AND TRIED SOMETHING DIFFERENT???? SOMETHING THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE????I'M TALKING TO CHARITY, A WONDERFUL PERSON AND SHE'S GOING TO GIVE ME SOME CLUES ON SOME LESS EXPENSIVE TESTS FOR MY DH TO TRY, BUT I'M HOPING SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS BEEN THERE DONE THIS AND HAD SUCCESS.......??? ANYONE?

Hi I am new to the board, and I saw your name and wondering if you are from wisconsin, and if so where are you going for your IFV, because I am from Wisconsin and just want to know if you are seeing Dr. Severino also?

Hello there- I too am wondering where you are from in WI and what Dr or clinic you are going to. I am currently in my 33rd week of pregnancy after undergoing IVF. I also have a 3 year old daughter from my first experience with IVF. So I consider myself somewhat experienced. I'd be happy to help with any info you feel you are lacking. I went to a clinic in Minnesota as it was closer and the Green Bay clinic was not open yet at that time. I do have a friend who did go to GB and had twin boys on her first IVF with Dr. Severino in GB. Look forward to hearing from you.

regarding Brenda's message I am glad to hear about your experience. I am located around Wausau. I really haven't heard any personal stories of any one from Dr. Severino, I just heard he is good. I am excited we meet with him on 11/20. Is there any one else in the area?

RE: DR. SEVERINO

Post by WISCONSINGAL »

I'VE BEEN SEEING HIM FOR YEARS. MAYBE I'M NOT IMPRESSED WITH HIM BECAUSE I HAVE NO ANSWERS AND OF COURSE NO RESULTS. I'LL TALK ABOUT THE POSITIVE THINGS FIRST. HIS STAFF (JILL AND BETH) ARE VERY GREAT.

NOW ABOUT THE NEGATIVES : HE DOESN'T WORK LATE, EVEN FOR CONSULTS. I NEVER GET ANY REASONS WHY ANY OF THE IUI'S FAILED....OR NOW WHY MY EGGS DIDN'T FERTILIZE. I HAD MY EGG ER DONE 11/7 AND I'M STILL IN PAIN. AFTER TAKING THE ANTI-BIOTIC, THEY FINALLY REALIZED THERE MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE WRONG, SO NOW I'M TAKING ANOTHER ANTI-BIOTIC TO CLEAR THAT UP. THE LAST IUI THEY ORDERED TO MUCH GONAL F.....$400 WORTH...AND I GOT STUCK WITH IT (HAD TO THROW IT OUT) ONCE THEY HAD MY MONEY AND THE PROCEDURE FAILED I COULD HARDLY GET A RETURN PHONE CALL. NOW SINCE I SIGNED UP FOR IVF THE BILLS ARE STACKING UP. THEY KIND OF GIVE YOU A ROUGH ESTIMATE, BUT THEY ARE NEVER CLOSE. THEY DON'T INCLUDE ANESTESIA, MEDS (WHICH WERE $1900.00). I'M STILL NOT SURE WHAT IF ANY TYPE OF REFUND SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE THE ET PROCEDURE DONE AND I PAID THEM $10,700.00 FOR IT, IF I'LL HAVE ANY TYPE OF CREDIT OR NOT. I WAS TOLD BY A VERY GOOD FRIEND THAT HE'S HIGHER THAN ANYONE AROUND, BUT THAT'S ACCORDING TO THEIR RESEARCH NOT MINE. I JUST FEEL LIKE I'M A NUMBER THERE, AND THAT I'M JUST AN EXPERIMENT TO THEM. I DON'T KNOW ANYONE ELSE THAT WAS EVER SUCCESSFULL THERE, BUT I'M SURE HE HAS TO HAVE SOME SUCCESS OR HE WOUDN'T BE IN BUSINESS RIGHT?

I'D LOVE TO JUST FIND OUT FROM THE BOARD, IF ANYONE HAS HAD A BAD ER LIKE MINE......I HAD 12 FOLICLES......THEY RETRIEVED 6, 4 MADE IT, I WAS TOLD THEY LOOK GREAT. THE DH'S SPERM WAS GREAT.....THEN THE DREADED PHONE CALL.........SAYING NONE OF THEM MADE IT. THERE JUST HAS TO BE SOMEONE OUT THERE BESIDES (CHARITY) THAT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS.

MEDS

Post by WISCONSINGAL »

THEY ORDER ALL THEIR MEDS FROM CALF. THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED IN ANY OF HIS PROCEDURES. IT'S ALL SEPERATE. ONE OF MY PET PEEVES ABOUT THIS CLINIC IS WHEN THEY SEEM SO CONFIDENT ON WHAT YOUR DOSES ARE GOING TO BE.....THEN THEY OVER ORDER YOUR MEDS.....AND YOUR STUCK WITH THEM. THE 1ST IUI I HAD...IT WAS LIKE $200 WORTH OF GONAL F I DIDN'T USE.....THE SECOND IUI I HAD $400.00 LEFT. I SAID PLEASE TAKE THESE BACK AND LET YOU NEXT PATIENT HAVE THESE.......THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T DO THAT. SO THAT REALLY BUGGED ME. THEN WHEN I SIGNED ON FOR THIS MORE EXPENSIVE PROCEDURE, I MADE SURE I WAS CLEAR I DIDN'T WANT ANY DRUGS ORDERED IN ADVANCE THAT MIGHT NOT GET USED.....WELL, HERE I SIT WITH TONS OF HCG LEFT....AND ALL THE PROGESTERONE......MORE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS WASTED IF WE DECIDE NOT TO SPEND ANOTHER $15,000.00 - $20,000.00 TO TRY AGAIN. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING, DOES ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have been very fortunate to have had a wonderful Dr. through my many cycles. I do not know very much about Dr. Severino in Green Bay. Just as I said before about a friend who had went through there. The thing I usually tell people going through fertility is to be comfortable and happy with your Dr & clinic. There are many of them now that you can switch if you are not happy. When you pay the amount of money we do you need to get the service you deserve. I would really press for answers as to why there was no fertilization that occurred. That seems a bit odd to me. And what would they do the next time to try to help. Does your DH have a low sperm count? Mine did and that was our issue and we had to do ICSI, which helps with fertilization. And as for cost, we paid our clinic about $11,ooo and that did not include some of my ultrasounds & monitoring & my meds. And I was responsible for ordering and getting my meds myself so I was able to control the ordering more. I ordered basics and tried to order as I went so I wouldn't have so many leftover. I hope this helps shed a little light on things for you. Just remember you deserve to get answers and if you are not happy more on to the next clinic. Where are you located? Once again, I went to Minneapolis and did some of my monitoring in Marshfield, which helped alot on travel time. He also now does monitoring and appts in Eau Claire. Good luck!!

Hi Wisconsingal,

Im so sorry about what happened. I read Justine post that you did IVF with ICSI. Was ICSI directly after ER? Or your DR did ICSI after found out no fertilization? I got 14 eggs on ER. None of them fertilized. Nothing wrong with egg n sperm (Donor, pregnancy happened b4). DR no idea why it happened. She said my egg shell was hard for sperm to enter. She did emergency ICSI one day late. She said in her sad face that she hoped any of them fertilized, cause it was one day late.

So if your iCSI directly after ER so im agree with justine, may be you can try another clinic. Hope your dream come true on your next cycle. God bless

Winsconsingal, I am not sure what your clinic had done wrong that none of the egg fertilized ... one thing is for sure ... if you are not happy with the doctor, you shouldn't continue with him or her. It's very important that you have confident with your RE and the clinic does shows very good success rate ... you know how hard it is for us to go through even just one cycle ... I am sure you wouldn't want to waste you time and effor with a doctor you don't like. Not just about the money, the stress we are going through mentally is so important.

A clinic and doctor that had good experience is very very important for us IVF gals ... we don't want to be a genie pig, right? Please go find another good clinic and doctor for your next cycle.

Jemma, I am very surprise to hear that your doctor when for the ICSI after one day ... this is also showing that your doctor / embryolist is not experience. Normally, ICSI is done immediately after ER.

I had 15 eggs retrieved, 14 matured. With the ICSI, 12 were fertilized. Even though only 3 made it through the quality grading, and they did a transferred of all 3 and 1 more of poor quality. With assisted hatching, I am pregnant with 4 beanies (which is a bit too much ... but good success rate).

Jackie, I didn't change my signature to Quads because I still couldn't believe that. And I had a bleeding last week that the doctor think one of the beanie couldn't make it. It was funny with the number of beanie in me as we can only see 1 from the first scan, then 2 from the second scan few days later, then 3 from the third scan a week after ... and of course 4 from the 4th scan. Wow! I am going in for my 5th scan today, I am sure he is not going to tell me there is 5 ... but I think he might be telling me less due to my bleeding last week.

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that some of the beanies are healthy.

Hi Ophee...

Yes, you are right. Normally ICSI immediately after EC. But after EC, my eggs on sperm looked good. Also the sperm proven pregnancy result couple months before. After thawed, also still in good condition. No need of ICSI. I think it wasn't my DR n Embryologist fault. Why none of them fertilized on day after EC, It needs further test to know. But, I was glad the way they handled/resume my BFN. Everything seemed make sense for me. I put my trust back again to them n also I believe by staying with them make me better success, cause they know how my body works already.

Congratulation on you pregnancy. Take care yourself. You are going to be
4 times busier. God bless
