Egg retrieval

Post by Grace »

Dear Mary

That is good news, and it is exactly as July Ann says you only need one!! it does n't really mean you have half the chance. Honestly, I have been around these boards for a while ( bit of a serial IVFer unfortunately) and it often happens that women with the least embryos or the most fragmented or whatever are the very one who get pregnant.
I know what you mean about worry, I think we are all in that boat.

Take it easy now for the next few days. Make the most of it at least that is what I do.
Are you going to take a few days off or go back to work?
Anyway fingers crossed for you and keep in touch, I think the 2ww is the worst bit unfortunately.
Take care of yourself and good luck for et tomorrow.
Love Grace.
Egg retrieval

Hey Mary,
The whole "one embryo for one baby" analogy is so true, one of my dear friends had this happen to her, she has a beautiful little girl now, don't get hung up on the numbers Mary, go with the flow (as hard as that is sometimes!)
I just had a FET et done, my clinic doesn't make you go to the toilet, but I know I went about fifty times before the et so that I wouldn't need to go in a hurry after the procedure (nervous wee's!). I asked my specialist though afterwards, she said that there was no way that you could pee out an embryo, evidently the corpus luteum (cells around the embryo) are somehow attracted to the endometrium and sort of "hover" close to the lining, also got told that the uterus is tilted back slightly, so gravity couldn't possibly cause them to fall out. Know what you're going through though, you just want to do everything right, and for this precious little embie to bed down and grow into a beautiful little baby. You will do everything right Mary, ultimately, a pregnancy will result if the embryo is right, and implantation occurs, not becuase of something you do. You sounds like you'll be a great mum.
Belinda

Egg retrieval

hi Marycam

I just read your post and hoped that I could help you feel a little more positive. I didn't have a particularly good tmt last go, we only managed 6 eggs (previously 14!), whilst four fertilised they were very poor quality (2 x grade 3 and 2 x grade 2.5) both were badly fragmented and therefore poorly graded. I felt the whole thing had been a bit of a waste of time (and money!) this go and just wanted to get it over as quick as possible so I could start another go. I even said to my consultant on ET day, - "come on lets just get it over with and stick two back for a laugh!!"

So we stuck two embies back and I felt a bit like you do now. Even though we didn't think it had any chance of working this time, I did still do everything I had promised myself I would do differently from the first eg no choc, more resting, 8 pints of water, asprin etc....

The moral of this (very long!!) story is yesterday we had a 6 week scan and saw the heartbeats of our twins!! This means both the 'crappy embies' worked. So don't give up hope Marycam until its over. Do everything you ought to do during the 2ww and keep everything crossed and you just never know what will happen..... If these two gorgeous miracles can work for me, then it can work for anyone!!

I'll keep watching for a progress report, please try to take it easy between now and test date don't do anything strenuous, mentally or physically. Just chill out and take it easy.

lots of love and luck.
nikola.xxx
