Hi Kathryn

Feeling a bit pissed off at the mo. Had geared myself up to do a natural FET, less invasive & cheaper!!
Guess what? Because of the mix up over black twins, (was in the papers a while ago), HEFA have understandably changed their legislation, ie stricter embryo control etc. etc. DOnt get me wrong, IM all for this but our clinic have now ceased natural FET..They said the success rates were the same but with controlled cycle they always do ET on set days, with a natural cycle they cannot control day they do ET which means it could fall on a sunday & they do not have enough staff..... Its always down to budgets!! Private or NHS....
We were told Salisbury offer natural cycle but we dont really want to change clinics & it would mean a 40 minute drive for scans each day which will be a bit awkward at work.....

We must be in the dark ages in Southampton as I also asked about Blasto (was thinking about this if FET do not work) but surprise surprise they do not offer this either

On the plus side they have said as I was not stimulated can start as soon as next Af arrives......I really want to go right away but DH wants to wait until after xmas, he thinks it will be too stressful doing tmt over xmas which if we go ahead next AF will probably happen........

Trying to stay +ve but as you can see lots of talking with hubby to do....I have to try & remember to take his feelings into account but you know how it is with us ladies, no patience!

How ru doing?? when do you test??

Take care
Sarah
xx

god sarah thats so crap!
i understand about tighter controls for embryos but having natural or assisted fets wont make any difference wit regards to a mix up.
Its really bad that they should want to pump you full of drugs just so they can arrange what day you have transfer on. makes me really cross, especially when we have to pay extra for the privellege of medication! they should be making ways to help couples keep their costs down, and a natural fet ,if appropriate is an ideal way.

I understand you not wanting to change clinics. we only live 20 minutes away, and I find that a pain!!!

It must be hard when you just want to get going again. christmas still seems a while off, but we did an ivf cycle over christmas lastyear and we almost got divorced!! a very unpleasant time. there were other factors but it was really stressful! mainly i think , because it was our first and i didnt know what to expect and dh certainly didnt know what to expect! so I can understand your dh point but yes, us girls our very impatient! and I know if this cycle fails for us, Im just going to do what I can as soon as poss despite our very near divorce last year!!!

do you know how long an assisted fet cycle would be? would it cut into christmas?

sorry for your bad day sarah, I hope its not too long now before you get your BFP and then next christmas youll have an extra one ....or two to join you for christmas dinner!

lots of love
kathryn
x

I test a week saturday...yikes!
Hi again,

I just checked the calender & i started sniffing 19/07/03 & had FET 11/09 so all in all about 8 weeks!! (no wonder I got so impatient) so I guess if AF arrives end Oct appointments & scans will be slap bang around xmas time. We are going away to inlaws for xmas & have a dinner dance to go to NY eve so as much as I want to start now, will have to weigh things up. I suppose I could compromise & start AF after which would mean starting to sniff etc before xmas but ET in New Year

Watch this space!!

Lots of +ve vibes coming your way for sat week

Sarah
xx

hi sarah

sarah glad to see you are at it again. fet is different as you do not have to lay the eggs, it normally takes less time that ivf. when they scan you they are looking for the lining to be thick for when embryos are put back in. If you went for a nat at another clinic you have af then put back in after surge around day 14, then 2 wk wait but it should only take a month. Then you would not be doing tmt around xmas.At bourn they only do ec every other week so you can be sniffing for one week longer, I always book my tmt so I do not have to sniff longer as i get rather nasty. How many frosties have you got left.If you have blastocyst you have to take the drugs.

i would way up the drive ie 40 minutes 5-6 times or all those drugs.

hope i have been of some help.

from july ann
been in tmt for 4 years.Male factor. Have had 3 icsi, one ivf with donor sperm.Went for fet with 7 eggs but none made it to blastocyst. just had 5 DI. test date 27 july

hi Sarah

I agree with the lovely july ann. I think you should consider another clinic and having a nat fet, or if you feel more comfortable at your hospital (you might find the other is nicer - go have a look!) then do it on your second af. Are you sure you have to sniff on an FET? Seems a bit unfair to confuse your whole system just to put two embies back!

What the hell do I know, we were never clever enough to get bloody frosties! Whatever you decide I'll be watching and willing you over to the other side.

love nikola.xx

July Ann, Nikola

You still have to sniff because they have to shut down your system ao that they can control it with the drugs & make sure you have right hormone levels for ET.....

Apart from the cost, the success rate is the same for drugs or natural...

July ann-our clinic do not do natural fet or blastocyst.....

The clinic in Salisbury is a real bugger to get to with traffic & also I expect we would have to have a consultation etc with their consultant which will cost & also may take some time, so it may be better to stick local. All in all last fet took 8 weeks(this was from 1st day of AF, then sniffing, then another AF, then drugs, then ET)

July Ann-drugs on FET are not too bad as no injections!! only sniffing & tablets....We have 5 embies plus 1 frozen on day of ec, they have suggested defrosting this 1 a day before ET to see how it does & 1 of the others on the etday & if 1st does not make it will take 2 out on ET day-hope this makes sense. they did say they could defrost all 6 & put back best 2 but if they all survive we have lost another go later(what do you think???)

Think we will probably start after 2nd Af so will be starting end of Nov with ET January(all depending on when AFs arrive)

Take care

Sarah
xx

p.s they could not say why it did not work(theres a surprise) just said 1 emby put back was not brill, just fair but other 1 was really good....said could be genetic or just that womb did not want to except blah de blah de blah.....

hi sarah
i hated last year when they told that there was no answer to why it did not work, just one of those things they say.. don't you just want to scream at them...{i know it's not their fault..} but, any answer is better than none, but then mine did work this time, so maybe yours will next.
gosh you have so much decisions to make about it all, no wonder we get stressed!!!!
i think you are picking the right time to go again!!
thank-you for your e-mail, it was so funny. do you work for virgin? just see you e-mail address, my sister does too.
speak soon take care
love jackie xxx

Hello
I posted somewhere else as well but incase you didn't see it I think I will be going again after Christmas so I will need some cycle buddies then. I need a rest from all of this and besides, work is a nightmare in the run up to Christmas so I am looking to start as soon as possible in January (don't you just know it will fall at the wrong time when the clinic is shut and it'll end up being Feb instead). I have no frosties so it will be back on the injections again - oh joy! I am going to book my follow up soon so I'll let you know what they say then but not expecting anything more than the 'nothing you could do, they just didn't want to stick around blah blah etc'
Lots of love
Kat xx
