HELP on Nuchal scan

Post by souris »

Dear pregnant ladies,

I am a bit lost with the dates I have been given by my Doctor. Can please someone help!

I had my ET on September 13th, which makes me today 9 weeks plus 1 day (from the pregnancy calculator ). But calculations vary from one doc to another. One told me I was 9 weeks (last time I had my periods) and another that I my pregnancy was 6 weeks!!

So my french doctor gave me the dates I should do the scans, and the nuchal scan.
She said between December 13th and 27th (which would make me 16weeks??) . But I am now in Dubai, and I called to make an appointment, and the lady said I should come on the 20th of November (so I would be 11 weeks something)

So my question is: when did you have your Nuchal done??

Thanks for your help!

Thank you girls for your answers.
I will as the doc here told me, she knows better than me!
And if it is a bit too early, I am sure they tell me to come back.

I have one Down cousin, and as DH is not that young anymore, I do not want to take any risks...

I cannot wait to go back for a scan to see my small one, I hope it got bigger because it takes all my energy away!

Smita, I have not seen much of Dubai yet, been here for a week, Dh is working , I do not have a car and we live about 1/2 an hour from the center. ANyway I spend my days sleeping!

Thanks again for your help girlies!

ntt specfics

Post by MidwifeMom »

Hi Ladies,
Thought I would chime in since I order these things on a daily basis. A nuchal translucency test (ntt) can be done between 11 weeks and 13 w 6days, although most people prefer to do them earlier in the thirteenth week in case dates are off by a few days. The test combines an ultrasound which measures the nuchal folds on the back of the nect and the nasal bone. These are the two markers on the sonogram. The other portion is a bllod test that measures specific proteins in the blood. Combined, these have a 90% accuracy rate for Down's and a 98% accuracy rate for Trisomy 18. Of course it does not give you other chromosomal problem predictions, but the test is much more accurate than the AFP or quadruple test. To note, if you want to pursue further testing for neural tube defects, an AFP is needed between 15-18 weeks (but can be done by some labs upto 21w6d). This approach definitely is more accurate than the quadruple screen. I have seen a tom of false postives on that and the accuracy rate for Donw's is 65%.
As far as these dating errors, I am not sirprised. A lot of professinals do not properly do the calculations for IVF pregnancies. They use that wheel or a computer program which doesn't properly convert. They should use the due date (EDC) from the RE and not use dates.

Hope this helps :)

Hey Michele

thanks for the help.

That's what my doctor used, this wheel thing to know the due date. From this website, I am due June the 4th. But she calculated 13th of June, so there is quite a difference...

thank you!
