me:abnormal period and dh:already had vasectomy

Post by marianne24 »

I'm new here and just hoping that anyone can answer my question...

I'm 24 and my dh is 48. I don't have a normal monthly period at all and I only menstrate if i will take a medicine (provera). My dh already had his vasectomy many yrs. ago. We are planning to see a doctor and have our 1st IVF try by next month.

 I wonder if we can use our own egg and sperm cells despite in our situation? cuz i really want to use our own rather than donation.

any reply will be appreciated.. thanks in advance! :)

Hey Marianne,

My Dh had a vasectomy as well, we decided not to go through the reversal. So it is possible to use his sperm (as we did) but he needed to have his sperm collected through an operation called TESE or MESE. ANd then you have no choice but to go through an IVF ICSI (micro injection of 1 sperm in each egg).

For your menstrual problem, I cant really help as I dont know much about that... but there are many medicine to help ovulating and getting eggies through stimulation

well, I hope it helps
good luck

Hi, welcome to the boards!
Me and my DH are in exactly the same position as you. I dont have periods due to PCOS and my DH had a vasectomy but had it reversed. The reversal didnt work so well, and he now has a low sperm count.
There is an operation youre DH can have where they extract sperm straight from the testes and they will give you drugs to stimulate your ovaries and make you produce eggs.
You may need to have ICSI if your partners sperm dont swim (which is a common complication of vasectomies) but its still possible to have your own baby.
We have 2 children even with the same problems as you, so dont worry there shouldn't be any need for donors.
Good luck and I hope everything works out for you
