hi, im not sure if im putting this in the right place...
ive been on anti dperessants for 3 years and just starting IVF, i was wondering if anyone had prevoiuse experience of this.
loads of worries and concerns about continuing to take them while having IVF, ive been told by my doctors that i shouldnt come off them while going thru this as it will make me feel much worse(last time i came off them i got really ill mentally) they have said if im not well then theres no pount caryying on with the IVF.
my only concern is the effects the anti depressants could have while trying and if i get pregnant.
anyone got any experience of this, and maybe put my mind at rest a lil???
thanks

I think that it depends on which medication you are on. It is not the best thing to be on antidepressants whilst trying to concieve but my doctor said that as long as you come off them after the risk period and before the 3rd trimester..ie..in the 2nd trimester then all should be fine.
It is best to take your doctors advice as all medications are different as I know some are made of the happy hormones and some are artificical. It may not be in your best interest to come off them at all..so your doctor must be the one to give you advice.
Good luck

I fought against taking prozac for months earlier this year before going to a highly recommended GP for advice, as i was feeling pretty desperate after my 2nd failed attempt. The huge price of the consultation was worth every penny. She gave me confidence and peace of mind. She had no hesitation at all about prescribing Prozac, and actually takes girls who are trying to conceive off whatever it was they were on before and puts them on to Prozac, as it is the one thing that is known to be completely safe, due to extensive research. When i asked her about natural alternative medicine, (surely better i thought) she explained that the reasearch carried out into herbs is just not realised, the side effects are yet pretty unknown and nothing like the research carried out with prescriptive medicine. Under no circumstances would she recommend herbs, that's the irony. The medication has bought me huge relief from the demons in my head, and it carried a great friend with severe depression through her first and successful IVF cycle. Please put your mind at rest, and allow yourself to be carried a little through this very difficult time. Wishing you the very best of luck. x
thank you both, i will ask for a gp apoitment and ask to swap to prozac i think, ive been doing bit of research on the net about it and yeah seems prozac is the way to go. im curently on duloxatine 60mg whish seems to work well for me but isnt great while ttc.
thanks again both of you, have put my mind at rest a bit more
