Well girls had a very intersting consultation yesterday. I saw Mr Rai at St Mary's. He was very excited at my "case", don't know whether to worry or feel relieved!!

He was particulary intersted in the fact that my dad has had a couple of DVT's and a pulmonary embolism. My m/c was apparently also very unsusual as heart beat had been seen and we know it died at 8 and a half weeks.

Their latest research is pointing towards a problem with thromb something, a substance which all cells produce. Can't remember if it is having too much or too little but which ever way it is it can intefere with the embreyo connecting into the muscle of the womb and spreading out its blood vessels to form the placenta. 8/9 weeks is a very important time as this is when this happens. They now think along the lines that even later m/c's and pre-eclampsia might be linked to thromb whatever production and improper implantation at the start.

He seemed to think that the combination of my PCOS and poss thromby stuff could be the reason why we keep failing to implant.

On a cautionary note 40% of all blastos fail due to chromosomal defects, so we could just have been bl**dy unlucky!!

Any way, have had yet more blood tests. DH had to have some as well and I had to read to him and hold his hand so he didn't faint - what a wuss!!

I am having insulin resistance test as well, and go back for more antiphospholipid test in 6 weeks, and then get the results.

I can't decide whether it will be better to have these further problems, which can be treated, or not!!! We got the strong indication that he thought there were.

Interestingly he said there clinic now recommend that you don't take aspirin. For the first 8 weeks oxygen and blood are not good for the embryo, and I have always taken it to increase the bloodflow to the womb. Must admit I did get a bit lost with some of what he was saying.

He was a bit poo-poohey of NK cells etc, but then I remember 2 years ago the UK were very poo-poohey of the benefits of metformin for insulin resistant PCOSers

On the down side it means we can't have any more IVF or try naturally (still haven't quite given up on that one yet) but in the plus side this enforced break might help with the old stress levels.

Anyway, we came away feeling that there are still more avenues to pursue. Just have to try and pursuade or medical insurance that these are investigations, not treatment, so they cough up!!

Still fighting the fight!!

Karen

Hi Karen
Nice to hear from you.....Glad you are sounding positive....Your consultant sounds very good, at least they are looking into why...& that can only be a good thing cos once they know why they can hopefully do something to make things easier

Good luck & keep us posted

Sarah
xx
hi karen

I'm so pleased you are able to 'fight on'. Also it must be reassuring that your clinic are eager to find out what is causing your problems and deal with them. Hopefully this will mean you next (and final) tmt will be successful!!!

Lots of luck with everything
love nikola.xxx
Hi Karen
having just had my second mc after FET on exactly the same day (5 weeks and 4 days ) Im also going to have a meeting with the consultant about possible tests. I will post up what tests they will give me, it might be useful to compare whats made available at different hospitals. Did you get to discuss possible causes/further tests at the time you miscarried? Ive had to wait three weeks. I too am determined to suceed in the end. Good luck with your fight also
love Annie
Hi Karen,
had posted you a msg to see how your consultation had gone!
Good to see your consultant is doing further tests - when we got our results back from Chicago I feelt really down and that all the problems they had discovered would mean I'd never reach my dream - but am so glad we went through with that alst tmt - now 8weeks!
I've written a list of all the tests I had on the 'Di - can you help' thread rom Nikola, if it helps!
Good luck,
Di.
