Having another go & C section

Post by Vickyp »

Hi all

Sorry I haven't been on here for ages! I am back at work, although work from home - so have a childminder who comes to the house to look after Ollie - which is great as I can run downstairs any time I'm feeling withdrawal symtoms!

I was just wondering if anyone is thinking about doing IVF again and also whether anyone knows what amount of time you're supposed to leave between pregnancy's if you have had a C sec (thinking really optimistically!).

Ollie is now only 6 1/2 months but I really feel like trying again as soon as possible.

I hope your all well, happy and enjoying the fantasticness of motherhood. Love Vicky

HI.
I was told to wait one year to get pregnant again.
I know I am ready now too but its better if you do wait ,
My doc said it takes 6 months for your uterus to fully heal.

Thanks Joy. It seems a long time - that's what I was told too. But I have read online that lots of people seem to be told six months.

I guess it is best to wait. Love Vicky

Hi Vicky!

We weren't given any guidance about how long to wait before we tried to get pregnant again but we started TTC again naturally when Daniel and Charlotte were 6 months old (although 4 years later we're just in the middle of our second ICSI cycle so obviously there was no miracle natural conception). And, although she didn't have IVF, my sister was pregnant again within 6 months of a caesarean.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

TTC 5 years. Daniel & Charlotte born 22.03.02, 1st ICSI treatment. TTC for 4 further years. 2nd ICSI cycle abandoned, 3rd cycle BFN. Looking forward to being a happy family of 4.

Hi Vicky,

we were told 6 months after our six week check up(i.e. 7-8 months after the birth); like you I had a c-section. On another note, I know it's highly unlikely - but anyone had a natural pregnancy after their first child? Wouldn't a miracle like that be great!!

Be lucky!

Thanks Jules and Caroline

I'm still thinking about what to do- but after watching that Robert Winston programme last night I'm REALLY keen to get my embies out of the freezer!! Looked strangely claustrophobic for them if you know what I mean! Don't like to think of them all those miles away in a tube.

A natural miracle would be amazing Caroline - I don't know anyone whose had this happen. My sister was pregnant 4 months after giving birth to her 2nd child whilst she was breastfeeding (cow!) but I don't feel like we'll have any such luck.

Hope your having a good week

Hi Vicky
I thought i'd respond to your question as i was looking into the times also not long ago My specialist told me as long as I am not breastfeeding and i have had two periods since the birth then I can come back for my frosties. I still haven't decided on we are going to do so well just enjoy Jacob for now while we catch up on muchly needed sleep. Weve been told that you are more likely to fall pregnant after giving birth and therefor want to take advantage of this time and hopefully increas our success rate for a BFP but just thinking about how tired i was early in the pregnancy makes me tired let alone trying to look after a bub as well so it's a hard decision to make I was worried about rupturing my uterus if i got pregnant to early but i was told by a nurse that seeing you don't start really showing until the 6 or 7th month ( that was me maybe different for you) that it probably doesn't matter that much how early you get pregnant. But hearing that i then started thinking well what if we have twins this time would this increase the risks and would i be limiting the no of embryo's they would put back as we would like to use two again. i guess it's best for you to speak to your Ivf doc and ask all the what if questions and then make up your mind. sorry I know I've rambled a bit but I hope this helps it is a hard decision to make.

all the best on what you decide to do
