morning ladys.....erm....ok...lol..sorry i thought id nip on quick and see how everyone is so got a cup of tea now im ready...

i know there is a lot of talk about do this don't do that to be honest after watching a few cycles Carolyn is right and this much i have learnt...it really doesn't matter too much what we do our embies ARE going to stick i think doing as much as we can to alleviate some of the mental anguish while we go through this is a wonderful idea like if it didn't work last time try something different it wont hurt (providing your not hand gliding or playing the amazing race) we had two lady's on our last cycle both stressed out to the max 1 had a bad thing happen with her PDG and all her little ones had to be retested she was devastated and so stressed the other one had her help leave and she had to work long long hours in a club all through her TWW both got pregnant and are in the second tri right now ... so i think we should do what we have to to let us know we gave it our all and we will get pregnant we will boost each others PMA all the way through...

Carolyn i am not going to be much help my first cycle i rested for 2 days then took it easy for the tww got nothing second i rested for 5 days then did almost nothing for the TWW again got nothing i truly believe do what feels right no vacuuming or lifting or hot baths/showers but carry on as normal

Bec i love your shit shield im getting me one of those i just got a letter from an agency apparently my children are beautiful and they want to represent them so im sending a pic of my embies ooo the new pampers cover i can see it now....could your embie be a gerber embie....

Becky your a sweetheart hugs

Shantala im so sorry you work with idiots everyone is right you have us and we know how you feel you can come here and vent anytime you need to we will listen and do what we can to help ....hugs

ems hunny im sorry i will change it now...brain fart....oo me not you

hey sully really good to see you dont worry about not getting here to often you may be out or site but never out of mind

Just a comment on the debate regarding bedrest after ET...My clinic says bed rest for 2 days, but you can still shower, go to the loo, and walk around, but they don't want you doing any housework or any lifting.

I noticed there had been such a difference from doctor to doctor so did a little "google research" a few months ago, and recall finding an article/website that actually tested the success rates between those women who were on bed rest and those that returned to "light-duty" semi-normal activity (and standing upright) right away. They found that the ladies that stood up afterwards and didn't stay lying down had slightly higher success rates. They found that when they did the ET, there was actually a little air bubble that gets transferred behind the embie they could see in the ultrasound. They figure that the standing causes the air bubble to push on the embie and help keep it in place for attachment to take place. They did try to communicate zero bed rest to their patients, and they nearly rioted, so they let women make the decision for themselves. Again, that’s just one “study” (not sure if “official” study was actually done) that was done. Not very conclusive, but just another take on the whole debate. If the “experts” are debating as much as they are over the procedures to use that result in highest success rates, there’s no wonder we get confused… :?

Take care, ladies…I wish you all the best, the happiest of holiday (for my American sisters), and happy birthday Lara…My 35th is this Saturday, so I know what it’s like to have a pumpkin pie for a birthday cake every year. I was a “big turkey” too…Can you imagine! I was 11 lbs. 7 ozs. when I was born!! My mother is truly a saint. I was her 9th baby, and after that, was her last…Can’t blame her…But, I broke the tie! The girls won…We had four boys & four girls in my family up to that point, and I was the “swing vote”…Girls rule! :) Take care my dearest of friends. I'm so thankful for you all...

Welcome Michelle. I will be doing my first IVF cycle starting in the end of December with ER and ET in January. Hopefully we can be one the same schedule. This is a wonderful site and I have met a wonderful group on this thread that are so supportive and understanding of what is going on. So Welcome aboard!!!!

As for the bedrest debate. I have copied and pasted information I found on the IVF thread on things to do and not to do after a ET. Hope it helps:

The post-transfer stage is when you wait to find out if your IVF cycle has worked.

Is bed rest recommended after the transfer?
There is a wide range of opinions on the subject of bed rest. Some clinics will not recommend bed rest at all, while others will recommend anywhere from 1 to 3 days. It has NOT been proven that bed rest will give you a better chance of getting pregnant. Most clinics will recommend for you to take it easy for at least the first day after transfer. Please follow the advice of your doctor for your particular situation.

What precautions should I take after the transfer?
I have compiled this list of precautions from the women who have passed along their clinic's guidelines to me. Please always seek the advice of your doctor on what precautions you should take for your situation. If you are in the 2 week wait and have already done something which the list says to avoid, please do not worry. I have known women who have done some of the things on the list and still have gone on to become pregnant.

AVOID caffeine, smoking, alcohol, and drugs
AVOID heavy lifting
AVOID strenuous exercising and housework (this includes vacuuming)
AVOID bouncing activities (horseback riding, aerobics)
AVOID sunbathing, hot saunas, hot tubs and Jacuzzis
AVOID swimming and baths
AVOID sexual intercourse and orgasms

When does implantation occur?
Implantation can start to occur as soon as 6-10 days after retrieval (I use "after retrieval" because embryos can be transferred on different days of development. Count the retrieval day as day 0). Five days after the retrieval a healthy embryo will have reached the blastocyst stage. Six-seven days after the retrieval, a healthy embryo will start breaking out of its hard outer shell and begin the implantation process. After the healthy embryo has implanted in the uterus it will not start secreting hCG for several more days. You will probably not be able to feel the implantation process.

What symptoms should I be experiencing if I am pregnant?
From having talked to women who have gone through IVF, I have come to realize that there is not a standard set of symptoms that you will feel if you are pregnant. The range of symptoms differs so widely that it is hard to even begin to answer this question. Symptoms during the 2-week wait can be caused by a number of different sources: the medications you are taking, your body recuperating from the IVF cycle, an impending period or an impending pregnancy. Below are some of the symptoms that women have reported to me before getting a positive result. You may experience some of these symptoms before your pregnancy test, but the only way to verify what you are feeling is a pregnancy test done by your clinic.

absolutely no symptoms
pre-menstrual-like symptoms
breast tenderness
cramping
nausea
food aversions

I am experiencing spotting before my scheduled pregnancy test. Is this normal? Spotting during your 2 week wait could mean a number of possible things: an embryo is implanting, one embryo is implanting while another is detaching, your period is arriving. Please always call your clinic if spotting occurs. You should always go ahead with your clinic's pregnancy test even if the spotting is heavy. There is really no way to tell what is happening until the pregnancy test gives the clinic some indication.

When is the earliest I can do a home pregnancy test (HPT)?
It is very tempting to do a home pregnancy test before the one scheduled by your clinic. However if you had an hCG injection (the one 2 days before your retrieval) it could take up to 2 weeks for the hCG to leave your system. If you have received hCG boosters it could take even longer. If you test while the hCG from the injection is still in your system you could get a false positive. You could also get a false negative if the hCG from the injection has left your system and the hCG produced by the implanted embryo isn't strong enough yet. If you do decide to do an HPT, please realize that it is not a conclusive result and that you should always have your cycle results confirmed by your clinic.

Aunty honey,

I'm not MIA babe. I'm still alive and kicking and finally finished my exams until beginning of February. I have been swatting big time and have done quite well too. I'm trying to start my own business so I have had little or no time. I have checked in every week or so on you lovely ladies.

All of you are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Love from an old time IVF'er

I can't believe how much activity this thread has had - it's going to take me a while to read all the posts since about page 35!! So leaving it for another night to do with a glass of wine also have an interview on Friday and ought to be researching and preparing!

My pamper weekend was bliss and it was nice to get away, I had a contour wrap which was susposed to give me a new body but think it failed  and a facial which was susposed to make me look 25 again...well atleast try and smooth the fine lines... but for the first time in a few weeks I actually look healthy!!

We had our follow up appt and it went well. They were disappointed about the amount of follies I produced so going to start me on the higher dosage straight away next time rather leave it towards the end. Also they said that my DH swimmers were struggling to get through to the eggs (apparently the shells likely to be too hard). Always said we were incompatible in everyway... ha ha ha

Obviously pleased that I managed a BFP and want to do some blood work to see if there is any medical reason why I m/c. If so, then likely to be on disprins and some other form of meds.

Also suggested that next round I go with ICSI to atleast try and get more than 2 fertilised.

Just now waiting for AF to arrive so we can start planning when, fingers crossed it will be end of jan/beg of feb. I 'm so excited, its like one chapter over and a new chapter beginning.

Thats me for now.... oh just to add Shantala - not only are you down the road but also yr birthday two days after mine!! So we are both fishes!! :D Aunty can you add me please - 7th Mar.

Happy birthday Lara - hope your having a great one.

Nimble that spa weekend sounded wonderful. I have been begging DH for just 4 hours at a spa for 3 years, so maybe I'll let him read your post and he'll get me one for Christmas!!!!!!!!! Anways, even if you don't look 25 again at least you look healthy! I hope that looking and hopefully feeling healthy will bring you extra help with a future baby bump.

So glad you had a wonderful time, I'm sure I'm the only one is living that dream through you right now!

Aunty - Yes, the planning meeting on 12/5 is with the Nurse to sign papers, order meds, get schedule/calendar showing when to start meds, and show us how to give shots  I'm sure we'll bypass that this time.
