Braxton Hicks

Post by Zed2003 »

Hi girls,

I have a question for you all.

I'm 35 weeks and having had my son at 33, I'm feeling like a serious first timer at the moment. I have a question for you all about Braxton Hicks...

For the last 3 days or so, I've been having serious tightenings. VERY often, more or less when I change position! Now, I had them from early on with Sam, but don't remember them being like this and not so often.

Are they Braxton Hicks, or is it just the position of the baby do you think? He is very to the front, but it tightens right across my tummy, so that makes me think it's BH. I've never been this far on before, so for all you ladies at this stage or around - is this just what it's like as the baby gets bigger and has less space???

Anyone else getting this to this extent. Am thinking of phoning the midwife, but feel a bit daft.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Zoe

I would definately phone your midwife. There's no harm in doing so and don't feel daft. She may suggest you coming in to be checked out. One thing we can't see is if we are dilating.

Braxton hicks should never be painful. If they become frequent and regular then you should contact your midwife - extract from my book!

I thought I was experiencing braxton hicks with Jodie at 35 weeks, I went in to be put on the monitor for them to check them out and it turned out I was 2cm dilated.

Sorry don't mean to worry you but best safe than sorry, especially as your last one came at 32 weeks. Besides there's not much on the telly tonight!! Let us know what you decide.

Thinking of you

Jo

Thanks Jo,

I'll phone in the morning. They're not painful as such, just VERY uncomfortable - if that is what it is??

Like you though, it's nagging away - especially having Sam so early. Knowing my luck, I'll get checked and it'll go all quiet! LOL

Hi Justine,

Well, phoned this morning and midwife thinks it's just BH, but because of my history I've just to keep an eye on it. Steve keeps asking 'Are you having this baby now?' and should I take my phone - even when he takes the dog out. LOL :D

She's probably right as I'm ok at night and they're not regular so she thinks the weight of the baby is making them worse  THAT makes me feels better... NOT - how flaming heavy is he?? LOL

Anyway, I'm going to start timing them I think - it's when I'm out and standing they're at their worst - I'll be damned if I'm doing nothing for the next 5 weeks - Steve'll have musrdered me...

Anyway, it's making me get organised - even though it's against all my superstitions...

Let's just hope that BH means quick and easy labour with all the practise!!!

Hope your pains are easing up...
