For anybody who may be able to shed some light: Wed before last we had our first sonogram at 7 weeks. My HCG was 22,000 + and the embryo measured 5mm, and the heartbeat was 115 BBM. The doc was concerned because the embryo measured at 6 weeks instead of 7 weeks. One week later (last Wed) my HCG was down to 14,000+ and the embryo had only grown to 5.2mm, and we couldn't easily find a heartbeat (though she didn't look for one the way she did last time).

I was supposed to have a D&C (my request) on Monday, but I backed out and decided to let nature take its course.

So, imagine my surprise when the IVF nurse called to tell me that today's blood work indicated that my HCG level has risen from 14,000+ to over 41,000 in one week - and that the doctor wants to go ahead and do a D&C. We are so confused. I wish the doctor had called herself (instead, the nurse called after hours the day before a holiday). My husband and I agree that we want to speak to the doctor in person and have another sonogram before we reschedule the D&C, and they're fitting us in next Tuesday.

Has this happened to anybody else???? Note that 5 embryos were transferred but the doc only saw one on the ultrasound.

Thanks for any info -

Rachel,

I am sorry but I really am not sure what that could mean but I just wanted to say that I think you are doing the right thing and to go with your gut and not to let anyone pressure you into doing anything that you feel is not right. I would also insist that they give me one more ultrasound before you have the D&C. I am so sorry you are going through this and I will say a prayer for you and your DH.

Take care,

Nictor,

Love, don't give up! I know it is really hard, but you just never know! You are still really early and trust me, if feeling weepy was a sign of no pregnancy, I would be barron! I cried like a baby on the four day after my transfer! I did this and then gave up. I went about the rest of my two week wait as if I was just going through a regular part of my life. I was certain it did not work! Boy have I been wrong. Just hang in there!

Nictor, please try to stay positive. All the hormones reak havoic on our bodies and emotions.

txtacopaco, my heart bleeds for you. I can not imagine going through what you are. I really hope they do give you another US before the D&C. May God bring you peace!

How is everyone else doing? With the holidays all the posting has slowed down, but I just wanted to let you all know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Take care and God Bless,
Cowgirl

Hi girls

Sorry i haven't been around. My dh Dad was taken into hospital so we had to visit England and stayed longer than planned as he was very unwell. Thankfully he has stabilised and we came back yesterday then i had to go straight to work and do a sleep-over  i am soooo tired.

We seem to be getting such bad news all the time lately and we are just so tired from moving house, ivf's and now this. Hopefully we can start having a run of good luck.

Haven't really had time to grieve for my embies, i still get tearful now and again but know i have to move on. The Doc said i can start again in Feb. Does anyone want to join me on a new Feb Buddies thread?

Nicola - You hang in there. Everyone has different signs and feeling. All three cycles for me where different and it's not over until the test. Have a good cry today then move on and think positive, i know its hard but were here if you need a cry or a vent.

Love to everyone else. Am away to chill now

Jen...I'm with you on the February thread...I am currently on the December/January thread, but my actual cycle is going to start at the tail end of January and doing EC/ET in February. There are soooo many lovely ladies on that thread, but to be totally honest, I can't keep up! I had mentioned to them that I felt like I wasn't getting to know each of them as personally as I would like, so a fresh thread might be just the thing. I'll fit a little better as far as timing, too...

I'm so glad to hear that your are doing better emotionally, sweetie. I think of you often...It will be good to be looking at the new beginnings for the new year, though. You take 'er easy, catch up on that well deserved rest, and just give yourself a little time to breathe. Will talk to you soon...Take care, Dear... :)

Up(down)date

Post by txpacotaco »

Had my blood drawn yesterday for another HCG test in anticipation of this morning's "because the patient demanded it" sonogram. It had dropped from over 41,000 last week to a little over 24,000 this week, and the doc didn't think I really needed to come in. But I did anyway, and we took a peek.

The embryo is nothing more than a fetal pole now (interesting the way they sort of grow backwards, as opposed to simply dissolving or something, there's something sort of full of grace about that). Everything else looks healthy and normal for this point in a missed miscarriage.

Since it's been nearly 3 weeks since the heart stopped beating and I have yet to shed a single drop of blood, we're going ahead with a D&C next Monday.

For those of you concerned about scarring from a D&C... I've had 6 of them (7 if you count next week). 5 were years and years ago, back in the days when all you got was a hand to hold and a shot of novacaine. I did end up with some scarring from some point in time, but the doctor was able to remove it and return my lining to something good. I'm not concerned about scarring this time around; I know I'm in good hands.

Doctor said we can try again after one normal period, and my husband wants to go ahead. So I'll be back soon.

Thank you all for your support here - you've been a lifeline in a sea of very turbulent emotions and fears this past week!

Rachel...I don't have the words to tell you how sad I am for you. I can't imagine going through this as many times as you have, and still having as great of an attitude as you do. 7! You're someone to be admired, and I am so glad to hear you will be having a new beginning after this chapter has been closed. You and dh are so deserving, and there's something to be said for karma. You take care dear one, and I will be watching for you in the very near future! All my best...

Nicola...Sweetie don't give up. You know that those drugs make you feel down, and they also give you pregnancy symptoms. So, if you do get pg, you might very well be feeling the exact same way as the other cycles. Keep a PMA...You know that I would love to see you in February, but I hope for you, that I don't! I want to see you're baby bump growing on the "expecting" thread! Hang in there dear...Are you testing on the 1st or 2nd maybe? Sorry if I missed an earlier post. I'm praying for you, and sending nothing but PMA your way...

 Hi girls

How's everyone? I'm ok although had a wee tear this morning when me and dh watched A Child against all Odds. I just wish i could have some exciting news and some nice blue lines staring back at me.

Anyway we have friends coming up from England today. He was our bestman and she worked with me in Italy then they met and got together at my hen night. So should be lots of fun and memories to chat about.

Nicola - You hang in there babe and I DONT WANT TO SEE YOU IN THE FEB GROUP---its not over until you do that test

Charity - How you feeling about your next cycle? Will see you over in the Feb thread for a chat.

Rachael - I was so sad to hear you are suffering t the moment. Give yourself time and let dh look after you.

Have a good weekend. Catch up soon

Haven't heard from you in a while, how are you doing?? Thinking of you!!

As for me I had some blood work done after my miscarriage and it came back that I have several mutations! I am positive for Factor V lieden--this is a clotting disorder..I will have to be on a blood thinner if we cycle again... I also was positive for MTHFR--I don't know really what this is but they said I would have to be on alot more folic acid and take some kind of prescription medicine... I hopefully will know more when I talk to the RE on Tuesday... I am just glad to have some answers..

We are still going on with the adoption process, we have our homestudy tomorrow and I am so ready for it to be over with....

Hope all is well with everyone!! I miss everyone and I am trying to keep up where everyone has spread out to...

keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!!
