Hello ladies, hope everyone having a good weekend.

Sonix, so sorry to see your news. So disappointing for you. It sounds like DH is being a great support. Good luck to you in your next step. x

Caz, you sound very positive! Good luck with the DHEA and your next cycle. Keep us posted.

Hello Babyblue and welcome to the thread. You are in the right place for advice and support, these ladies are great! We all read statistics and wonder how they will apply to us...I think we are all so different and our bodies respond to meds differently that we can never tell what is going to happen! Wishing you loads of luck with your appointment and your next cycle...hang in there, dreams DO come true!!

Hi Tammy, how are you today? Has DH felt Andrew yet?

Hello to Bev, how are you? Hope building works are progressing as planned. Good luck with your scan tomorrow...hope all goes well. Sending you relaxing vibes!!!

Hi to Kat, good luck on Tuesday with your appointment. Let us know how you get on.

As for me, we had our 20week scan on Thursday and it was A OK!!! Saw everything we needed to .....heart, brain, kidneys, bladder, spine, hands , feet, upper lip etc etc....baby was very good and was in the right position so the sonographer could do her job!!! S/he is even the correct size for due date. We were delighted :D

Hugs to Yasmina, LuAnne and all other lovely ladies here
Bye for now

Good morning Ladies:

Caz: Good luck on your upcoming cycle.

Anna: I'm glad to hear that your 20 week scan went well. I have my next appt. on Dec. 14th and then will have my next scan 2 weeks after that. Yes, DH finally felt Andrew kick on Friday evening. I think that I was more excited about it than he was. My mother felt him kick on Thursday.

Take care all,
Tammy

Hello Everyone!

Tammy
That's great that your mother and DH have both gotten to feel Andrew kick. You must be getting more excited by the day! :D

Anna
I am so glad to hear your 20 week scan went so well. I am sure you are also getting very excited. :D

Sonia
Sonia, I am sorry to hear your bad news. I don't know if this is appropriate for you, but it's something one of the doctors I'm consulting w/has discussed. It's called "Mini-IVF" & it's quite different than conventional IVF in that no shots are required, not even progesterone. Oral fertility meds are used, & not stopped prior to the retrieval, so there's no need to block natural ovulation w/Lupron shots. It's much much less expensive than conventional IVF, usually about half. The meds are only about $400 too, not several thousand $, making it even cheaper. This method was developed by the Japanese, & the trick to it is that the clinic must utilize the Japanese method of embryo freezing, called "vitrification", in which only 1% of embryos are lost when thawed. Because oral fertility meds have a negative effect on uterine lining, the embryos are transferred in the next cycle when the uterine lining has been prepared. By doing it this way, they avoid the luteal phase defect & there's no need for Progesterone shots. This method is supposedly ideal for poor prognosis cases of older women w/low ovarian reserve, as they tend to respond about the same way with this method as w/conventional IVF, but with far less expense and discomfort. I realize I'm not an expert or I would have my own problems figured out & be pregnant myself. I just wanted to tell you about it in case it might be of interest to you. Whatever you pursue, I definitely wish you the best! :D

BabyBlue
Hello to you and welcome. :D You are in the right place.

Caz
I hope the DHEA works well for you. :D I have only recently learned about it.

Kat
I am so happy for you. :D Will you find out when you get to cycle again at your appointment on Tuesday?

Bev
Sorry to hear you had to be in the hospital. :? Hope you're all better. :D

WisconsinGal
Have you had your consultation yet? I understand your frustration, but I hope you can get some answers. Good luck to you. :D

Yasmina
Hope you're doing well too. :D

Now, as for me, I am still in the process of researching clinics. I have so many irons in the fire right now, I won't confuse you all w/the details, but I have 5 more consultations scheduled over the next 2 weeks, & plan to schedule 2 others as well. Once I get through some of these, and narrow the field, I'll fill you all in on things. I'm eager to cycle again in early 2007, so my DH & I have a goal of making our decision by mid-December.

Everyone Take Care!

Well ladies, I am back from my appt and we could be all systems go for Jan/Feb!! There is a possible altruistic donor in the pipeline (rather than an egg sharer) and they will let us know her characteristics if she is a suitable match.
We now have to have some of our tests updated and then call them on day 1 of my January period for a treatment schedule meeting, starting meds day 21 of that cycle and then ET 2-3 weeks after that all being well.
They really don't seem concerned about sperm quality - DH has to have an up to date sample tested but they do not see the need for anything major.
DH seems quite happy with the whole thing so let's hope that continues. I told him he has to tell me what he's feeling but neither of us are very good at that so I'll just have to prod him from time to time.

So - here we go again!
Love to all

Thank you all for the very warm welcome. I have tried to catch up on some of the earlier posts.

Tammy - I am getting anxious about our planning meeting next week (12/5). The Dr. said he was going to try the flair protocol this time. The only thing I could understand from his explanations was that there would be less Lupon (suppression) and it would be a shorter cycle. That is great how you got pregnant on your own.

Sonia and Caz - My 1st IVF they retrieved 9 eggs, 7 fertilized and 4 made it through day 5, but one was starting to split (or break apart - something like that) and they implanted three. One of these he was very pleased with, but it didn't take.

Good luck and God Speed to you all.

WISCONSIN GAL:
The clinic is Shady Grove in the DC area. The guarantee was on the basis I use an egg donor, due to my age. Under the plan outlined to me, they offer up to 6 fresh and associated frozen cycles, all fees included except ICSI & my meds. The cost is really high, but I'll gladly pay it to have a child. It's not risky since they refund 100% if no live birth, just expensive! The way I look at it, if I'm successful, the cost to get a baby isn't that much compared to the actual cost of raising a child. I'm seriously considering enrolling in their plan. The only thing I didn't like is they require attendance at a seminar for "oocyte recipients" & the wait for it is several months. I don't want to wait to continue treatment; I want to get right back into it the beginning of the year. I'm hoping to find a way around that rule. Anyway, if you are interested in finding out more about them, their web address is www.shadygrovefertility.com. You may also consider IntegraMed, a nationwide "shared risk" IVF program with several providers throughout the U.S. Some clinics have their own in-house "shared risk" programs, where partial refunds are made if no baby. (Make sure they define success as a baby, as some clinics define success as pregnancy beyond a certain stage, regardless of whether a live birth results.) Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Advanced Fertility of Chicago are a couple of clinics I'm aware of that offer partial refunds if no baby. SIRM has multiple locations in the US & Advanced Fertility of Chicago is actually in Gurnee, IL just about 15 miles from the Wisonsin line. Good Luck to you! Let me know if you want any more info.

KAT:
Yippee! I'm so happy for you. I hope I'm cycling around the same time, but I have a lot to get done first.

TO ALL:
I hope everyone is doing well. I have my 1st consult w/one of the possible clinics I may use tomorrow A.M. It will be interesting to hear what several different clinics/doctors say about my case. DH is concerned I'll get "information overload". (Maybe, but I certainly didn't admit to that! :? ) I'm hoping to find a common thread of thought amongst the doctors, but I'm also interested in hearing different opinions & hearing about different approaches. The doctor should have already reviewed my info, but I have a list of ??? ready if he doesn't address certain issues/concerns of mine. I have to pay for the consult, so I plan to get my money's worth.

hi gang

Just popped in to tell you some news......My FSH was borderline 15 and have only had 3 eggs in my last 2 ivf cycles. although they were gradeA and 1005 perfect embies we didn't fall pregnant. On the last visit to the clinic we were told they now are scoring AMH in stead of FSH levels as it gives a better indication of ovarian reserve. My AMH levels ( i can't remember what he said it stood for) were 0.2 instead of FSH levels 16...AMH levels above 4 are okay but want a 7 for best. so at 0.2 they have given us a 3% chance of a baby.

Adam and i have had major discussions since this news last week and have decided after our wedding inMArch to go for donor eggs. Unfortunatly we are unable to do this in britain and must go abroad...

My great grandparents were from Russia so we thought maybe Prague ( big J if you are out there please can i get some info on Prague) but know that both Kat and anna have gone to barcelona...can you give me info on this too please... Any other info on this would be most helpful...any clinics /donor books to read etc... thanks girls

Sorry no personals but love to you all

Hi ladies, the thread is getting busy again!

Tammy, great news that DH felt Andrew kick. I can't wait for DP to feel our baby properly.

Jen, am happy to help on the subject of egg donors. Would it be a good idea for you to pm me your questions, then I can answer you personally?

LuAnne, good luck with your appointment tomorrow. Hope the Drs are helpful and you can take a step further with your decision.

Babyblue, I have undergone a 'flare' or 'short ' cycle. It's great in that you don't suffer the side effects of down regging. Sending you PMA and relaxing vibes before your next appointment. Good luck.

Kat, what can I say? So excited for you. Glad the appointment went well and you have dates etc...With you all the way! Which clinic are you at? Did you see the IVF programme last night with sperm retreival? It was very graphic!!

Not much to report from me. Feeling baby kick a lot of the time now and feel tired after a long day at work , but apart from that doing fine!

Hi to Bev, Caz, Wisconsingal, Sonia, Yasmina and all other lovely ladies here
bye for now

I'm a newbie here and just found these message boards. I wish I had found you a few weeks ago when I started my first cycle! So much great info I have read on here so far. Its nice to find people going though what I am.

I'm 41, never had kids and after a year and a half of trying with my new hubbie (we got married in 2005) were recommended to try IVF.

I had the egg retrieval on Monday, but got some OHSS so the Doctor couldn't put the embryo back and that was disappointing. The pain was quite severe.... but I've started to get better.

Some good news though, when I saw the Doctor re the pain after the retrieval he said when he first saw me, he thought, a 41 year old women, history of bad endometriosis, that there was only slim chance of IVF working. But after my reaction, he says I have a good hope of it going ok!

He had let me go a a few extra days on the injections cause he thought I needed all the help I could get to get the eggs going. I reacted much better than he expected, so the good news is they got 12 eggs, and nine fertilized. They were able to freeze 7. I would go through all the pain again for that outcome. The scientists told me there were a couple that were 8 cells. Is that good?

thanks

JacJac:
Welcome and congratulations on such an excellent response. Embryos that reach 8 cells by 2 - 3 days past retrieval is really good. Other factors for grading embryo quality are symmetry between the cells themselves and no (or very little) fragmentation. The embryologists at many IVF labs will assign an embryo score to each, based on these criteria. Ask your lab how they grade embryos, and what the score of each of yours was. Bear in mind opinions about embryo quality vary somewhat. Many experts claim there is still a lot to be learned about embryo quality though, because single cell embryos have been transferred to become healthy babies too. More good news: Doing a frozen transfer is much easier. Good luck to you. :D

Hi all,

sorry, not been around all week as went in for my 28 wk growth scan on Monday, and to my horror they admitted me. They let me out last night and I am ok now for the time being, have been put on BP medication, and being monitored over the weekend by my community midwife, but had to promise to go back to hospital on Monday for further "experiments"! All is well with bub, but they are concerned about the pre-elclampsia potential with me.

Will try to catch up with all the postings over the weekend. Sorry to dash as have loads of washing and paper work to do, shame they didn't prescribe a little home helper for me along with the meds, LOL. Am trying to take it easy also, but not easy when things start to pile up. Maybe I'll stop wearing my glasses in the house so I can't see the dust accumulating!

More later,

Hi all

Welcome to JacJac, good response! You should have a good chance of success with your collection of frosties... :D

Nice to hear from you Bev, sorry to hear about the hospital stuff but being closely monitored must given you peace of mind? I can't believe you're 28 weeks already!

Jen - BigJ went to Kiev, same as Bev, so I am sure Bev can answer your questions - I haven't seen Julie posting for a while but then she has her little bundle to care for now :D As Anna says - ask any questions you like re Barcelona & pm or email me if you like too.

I worked through all the dates for our treatment and how long it takes once I start meds and decided that we would be best to start with end Feb AF which means ET in April as DH is likely to be away skiing in March so I said this to him and he said "do we have to wait that long? I won't be going anywhere in February" I tell you, that boy never ceases to surprise me :D I am sooo lucky :D

The clinic (Woking Nuffield) seem very nice and friendly and I have been emailing them this morning - they are very flexible and once we have been matched with a donor we can sort out dates depending on what my AF is doing so I shouldn't stress about timings yet.

I am getting really excited! I am going to try and not tell too many people this time especially at work (let's see how long I can keep quiet!) and then they won't be asking me questions all the time and getting overexcited.

Love to all
