I'm new and need a friend

Post by little R »

Hello, I am completely new to this ;-)

My husband came across this forum a few days ago and suggested it to me as we are on the verge of beginning our first IVF.
We moved to Dubai over 18 months ago and sometimes feel very isolated as we don't have any friends who can relate to what we are going through. Additionally, the fertility clinic has no support group.
I thought that I could perhaps talk to you ;-)

We have been TTC for nearly 4 years and have 5 failed IUIs over the past 2 years....doctors have labelled us "unexplained infertility".
I feel as if I am not the same person as 4 years ago... the anger, frustration, disappointment and sadness have taken their toll. I really want to try and be as positive as possible for this IVF, but I am scared.

I don't mean to whine, but am looking for any support, advice and tips you have to offer before beginning my treatment in October

Thank you for reading,

Rebecca

Hi Rebecca - Welcome to the Site. Glad you've found us .. I hope you find the site supportive.

First of all - whine away all you like. That's what we're here for (that, and the occassional laugh along the way  ).

I suggest you get hold of Zita West's "Fertility and Conception". There are many of us with the book, and following her advice. It's only £15 and well worth it. As the title suggests it's full of info around fertility and what you can do to help yourself. There's then a section on assisted conception. This'll give you some insight into the different trmts available.

I'm sure that once you've read up on the subject, started doing something proactive (like super healthy diet, reducing toxins etc), and gained heaps of info on this Site, you'll feels tons more confident about the IVF route.

Glad you joined us .. !

Thank you Sandra for the book details. I have ordered it; hopefully it will get here in time for my IVF!
I am really glad to have found the site. Thank you in advance for letting me whine :-)
It has been a difficult week....my younger cousin has just announced her pregnancy. I feel crushed and guilty for feeling jealous and angry. She got pregnant in the blick of an eye.....why is it taking me so long?
I know I should stop wallowing in self-pity..I just don't know how to handle my grief anymore when friends share their "good news".

Rebecca

Welcome to the site - you've come to the right place to find friends who genuinely understand how you feel.

You probably have loads of questions about your forthcoming treatment, so if you pop over to the General Forum and post them their you are bound to get a lot of replies and helpful hints.

Sandra's mentioned the book by Zita - a true bible and helpful aid whenever you need one. It's available over the internet at Amazon.com or Play.com if you feel like making a purchase.

Good luck with everything.

Hi Rebecca,
welcome to the site!!
You're from around my area- in the sense that dh and I have been in Bahrain for 8 years now(he 11, me 8) and its a lovely place to be in right(the middle east)? At least personally I liked bahrain..
In terms of a support group there, its not common mainly cause more often its a case of "we concieve too easily and too often" for the locals there- but the women are warm.. the american mission hospital shd have a support group though..
I don't know much abt dubai -have visited it once and have a couple of friends living in sharjah and bur dubai..
We've chosen to have ivf here in India though, cause we're indians..Sorry for going on in your thread, but felt a kinship of sorts..
Wishing you lots and lots of luck for your IVF..

Little R,

I fully understand you, I had my first IVF/ICSI done abroad (not far from Dubai actually!) and they did not have a support group, and my Doctor did not speak any english, so I was completely lost!! I did not know what the treatment was about, if what I was feeling was normal... It was very scary!!
And then i found this forum, all my questions were answered!
My second IVF ICSI is planned for January, and I know i will have all the help I need here!

Anyway good luck, and enjoy Dubai and the sunshine, it is such a nice City!

Hi little R,
I found you. I hope all is well with you and you have had some success since you posted this message. I know exactly how you feel. I am new to this forum but a veteran of ICSI. Have been at it now for over 8 years. We have had 4 pregnancies the longest gestation 20 weeks. My husband and I have relocated to Australia from Dubai and are looking to resume fertility treatment. Have to say I am somewhat dubious about standard of facilities here. We have already visited the Dubai Fertility & Gyneacology Centre and I was put off. I am not trying to draw comparisons between Australia and Dubai but I felt that the environment was not hygienic and the emotional support was lacking. Can you suggest other options? We are keen to have a cycle here as they offer assisted hatching which Australian clinicians do not favor

Hi Nita,

8 years. Your dedication is amazing. I am so sorry to hear about your losses. I wish you all the luck in the world. I'm a newbie to ICSI and the whole IVF thing in general. We can all send each other some emotional support if nothing else.

On another note - my sister is in Australia right now. She has not tried IVF, but just about everything else. While stationed in Australia they stopped trying to conceive, deciding to wait till they were stationed back in the USA to try again. I don't know why.

Anyway - hope you get some answers. Good luck

do not despair

Post by elles »

hi rebecca
Just browsing the board i come across you . first of all i now how you are feeling . I battle with infertility for 8 years and as you it was called unexplained infertility at first . I suffered niscarriage and ectopic too. to make matters worse IVF is not available in my country so i depended on nature and prayer. It really work this two combination. ON the 13 th april 2008 i gave birth to a beautiful precious girl call Kerryl-maria and she is considered as our little miracle according to me and darling husband. she will be 16 months old next week.
So i want to wish you all the best with your treatment and let me reassure you that you and your husband will be in my prayer everyday.
Like i tell other people who cant have children to consider my kerryl-maria as their own daugter from faraway as i feel i need to share her with you all as miracle we share.
god will surely answer to your prayers, please do not despair.
you can email me privately if you want.
All the best
