We are using donor sperm in Jan. We have undiagnosed infertility although we have 3 children together , we had 2 unsuccessful ivf cycles with our own eggs & sperm & 1 mc with donor egg & sperm. We just want a baby & don't know where the problem lies so, our genetics aren't important to us. Best wishes.

Hi Michelle
My dh and I have used donor sperm and now have a beautiful little boy. a couple of months or so before our first ivf dh had his boys tested and all though the results werent good the doc said there would be enough to get pregnant with. when it came time to giving the sample there was nothing at all we were reassured that if we had icsi also that he would be able to retreive some but had to consider a donar just incase. we were sent to the councelling department which is policy and then on to the donar selection department which was all a bit much the lady helping us seemed very cold about it and ran through things if just routine hurry up and choose someone mind you at this point we were thinking this is pointless we wont need it. As for being no sperm there the only thing we could think of that might have caused this was the fact that dh had went on new medication the month before sample time and we thought this had something to do with it. we got to the stage of eg and dh sperm retreival and again there was nothing so we had no choice to go through with using a donar. As it turned out the medicaton had made him infertile. but the blessing is we now have a gorgeous little man we love dearly. i will post later a couple of things we thought were important to consider when i get a chance. goodluck

hi Michelle
I had a few minutes spare so I thought i would check in . The biggest decision for us was would we tell our families and would we tell the child of how they came about. The decision to tell or not to carries alot of implicatons if you tell will the child want to meet them some day will they reject the non biological parent will it cause heartache for the child and then not telling brings the question of am i lying to them am i cheating them do they have the right to know what if they find out later on in life and how will they react so thats a big thing to consider. I don't know about where you are but all we get is a list of features a bit of family history health wise, what they like to do and do for a living or schooling history and unfortunately no photo which i'm sort of thankful for I think If I knew what they looked like I be always looking for them I know that sounds weird. But on the other hand the scariest thing for me was not knowing, what does this person looks like is the baby going to resemble me at all or take after the donar you know how you get kids that look the spitting image of one parent and the other thing was i know these donors have to be healthy and this might sound terrible but how good looking do they have to be not that I'm looking for this gorgeous kid as we'd love any child we had but you do wonder is the baby going to have some weird feature that you wished they had mention when selecting so theres lots to consider.
I must say though now that we have our little man we definately made the right decison to go ahead he's brought so much joy to us already and will contiue to do so . my advice is just choose carefully take your time and be sure you and your partner is one hundred percent sure just remeber the baby you have wont have chosen you, you will have chosen them and they deserve to be brought up with love and not regret.

oh i must say you'd be suprized how many people have said to me gee he looks like Dh
