Hello guys!

Post by Sophia flamenca »

Hello everyone! :D

I'm new to this website and I thought I would start posting here since I'm about to start my first IVF trial. The project has been postponed for all kinds of reasons in the last year, and now I really can't wait for it to begin! I've bought all the meds and I'm about to start taking Marvelon. The only thing is...

MY MENSES JUST WON'T START! :x

Go figure! This is SO ironic! I was supposed to start my period on Sunday or Monday... and as I write this, still nothing. I'm now on Day 32 and my cycles are usually 28-29 days long. My husband and I agreed to do a HPT this morning even if we both knew that becoming pregnant naturally would really be a miracle. Well, I got a BFN of course. I was still disappointed, you know... you never stop hoping in a way  But I'm okay now. The only thing is, as you probably know from your own experience, the waiting is killing me!

I prayed so I that my transfer would happen on the BEST date possible, and stated I was ready to accept the consequences... here are the consequences! ack!

Either way, my menses will start in the next few days, so it will be great to share the IVF process with people who are also doing it at the same time. :D Are there any people from Montreal here? I'll do my first cycle with Procrea.

Take care!

Sophie

Welcome Sophie! Isn't it ironic how any other month you would be praying AF not to come but the one time you really want it too....Wishing you the best of luck and welcome to the craziness that is IVF!

Bec:

Sisterhood's gotta be good! 8) But you know, one of the very first shocks I had about becoming part of the IVF community is that the best support I received was from fertile couples, and not from infertile ones! First there was the partner of one of my husband's colleagues/friends. They had been trying for about 9 months without success. They had gone through tests, but everything came back normal. And they were also told that no extra measures would be taken before they went through the full 12 months trial delay. I can understand that she was frustrated. However, there I was, still recovering from my surgery, and she asks what the news are. I tell her that our chances are now ruined for natural conception, and I tell her I'll have to go to IVF. Her reaction? A very cranky, "I hope you realize your luck!" Even if I understand that not knowing why it's not working is very frustrating, it was very tactless. I know exactly what's going on with my body, yeah, but it's still an awful loss nevertheless! hehehe, I remember how her partner complained about how having a spermogram was a pain in the neck. some people just don't turn situations to their advantages: I accompanied my husband in the spermogram room last summer and brought nice lingerie. We had fun and it was very passionate, very loving; we did not even need the magazines! And let me tell you, the same will happen on the ER day!

And this other colleague from Atlanta... I saw him at a convention this summer. I told him we would start IVF soon (told you the project was postponed many times... :? ) and the first thing he told me was: "Don't do it. Go to adoption directly; IVF is a very emotional process." He had gone through 3 IVF trials and failed... they adopted a lovely girl... but hey, they were both in their forties when they tried IVF. Again, it was very tactless to discourage me like that, knowing very well that I was much younger and that our situation was very different. So again, even if I understand his bitterness, the best support I got was from fertile couples. My best friend, for example... we're the same age, and she's currently trying to conceive with her husband. When I learned the news after the surgery, however, she was dead serious when she offered to wait until I had a successful IVF cycle before trying on her own, because she did not want me to suffer if she was successful and not me! The sweet, sweet girl!

Fortunately, the wife of one of my bosses just got pregnant after IVF. They were really lucky; they only had one blastocyst, but very strong... and it implanted successfully! It's a girl! She's due in March and she's given me precious advice... joining an IVF forum was one of them! Even if I'm sometimes a little jealous of her splendid belly, it's not a consuming jealousy, for she is also a living proof that IVF works and it comforts me a LOT!

And for the record, of course I'll be there for you guys as well!

mel12:

Indeed, the more you want it, the less you get it  My body feels weird, too, cramps from time to time... heaviness as if I was about to start my menses... bwl. But! It will happen sooner or later! Thanks for replying!

Welcome aboard Sophia!!! This is a great place to share, vent, and most anything else we need to do in order to be more relaxed and secure about our IVF world.

Aunty - Thanks for the AF dance. AF started yesterday afternoon. Start the BCP tonight. I'm on my way!!

Thanks all for the support about the rude comment from my co-worker. He is one that fills in for me when I have IVF visits. That is why I stiffened my jaw and tried to be kind and stern all in one sentence. In a way I feel sorry for him, he is about 52 and his wife was riding the bush hog with him about 2 months ago and she fell off and the bush hog ran over her and it killed her. He has been handling it quite well, but still it was a bad comment. We IVF ladies take our dates and schedules VERY SERIOUSLY!!

It is wonderful to hear about all these embies bedding in. BFPs!! BFPs!! BFPs!!

So it's only been 2 days and I'm already going out of my mind with the waiting game. This part of the process is so much harder than the shots, hormones, tests, etc. I'm at work not being able to concentrate. Fortunately I have company rolling in from out of town this weekend and looking forward to keeping busy.

Sonya.... 4 is our magic number!!! Don't know that I have room for 4, but given that I've raised 4 stepdaughters, wouldn't this be ironic!

Angie....thanks for giving me permission to rant and rave. Time goes so slow with all these milestones, the good ones and the bad ones.

Meg... which prenatal are you on? I take natal-eez and it totally agrees with me. I take it with my dinner. The one I took before this was gaggy.

Bec... my 2ww partner, how you holding up? Any words of wisdom to get through this. Hope your 2 embies are snuggling comfortably.

Shantala.... quads, who knows??? What can I say... bring em on

Sophie.... Welcome, you will find this board an incredible outlet as well as informative and emotionally supporting.

Jaby.... Good luck on Saturday with your test. Everything Crossed!

Hello again!

Wow! People reply fast here! That's amazing! 8) I already feel all excited to be part of the forum here! I'm sure it will be SO useful for me!

AuntyPebble : Thanks for your warmth! I already start feeling like I'm part of a family indeed! I'm really looking forward to know you better, guys, and share the ups and downs of IVF cycles. *hugs*

Just one quick question... I've been able to figure out all the other abreviations... but what does AF mean exactly? I know it refers to menstruations, but...

Ange: Thanks for replying sweetie. Oh, you're in the waiting mode... I heard, yes, that it's a very difficult and stressful time. I told my gyn that it would be hard, at times, to resist the urge to just spend those two weeks lying on my bed with both my legs up! (and I'm NOT talking dirty here, lol!) I've already planned to stop flamenco during those two weeks because of all the jumps and the potential shocks with all the stomping (I'm in the professional level, so there's some tough action going on in lessons!).

What way have you found to tolerate the wait? What helps, what doesn't? What is your partner's attitude in all this? Do you use visualization? It might be an excellent way to feel proactive, find a way to relax and also have a real impact on your two tiny ones! Visualization is actually empirically supported for cancer (does not heal it, but it does have an impact on survival length). I know I'll use it through the IVF cycle, starting at the Puregon phase. If you're interested in an abdominal breathing exercise, I could post it here; I recommend it to my patients for all kinds of situations ranging from anxiety to pain management. I personally use it, too, and it's very effective.

Jaby: my thoughts are with you for your test on Saturday!! :P Do you plan to do an HPT? When will you do it?

babyblue : Well, congratulations on your AF starting yesterday! I could be green with envy, you know... but I'll choose to feel lucky instead; who knows, if my body finally cooperates, our cycles would be real close and that's amazing! :D

And a general question for you all... those ticker factory things are SO cute! awww! But though I went on the website, I could not figure out a way to shape it for an IVF cycle... and I'd like to do this! :) Any tips?

Cheers!

Sophie
