Cramping 6 days post embryo transfer

Post by sat14 »

I have just had my first embryo transfer. They transfered two embryos grade 2(I guess that is not that great). i have been having cramps on and off since then and it feels like I am getting my menses. Last night and this morning the cramps were strange pinching sensations in my lower pelvic area. Has anyone had these before? Does this mean that I am getting my menses and the little guys did not implant. I have also been dizzy, constipated and had headaches. I am on progesterone suppositories. Help! I don't want to be discouraged!

Hello sweetie,

My first suggestion to you is go in the "General forum" section and look for December/January cycle buddies. You'll find many other women who are at the exact same stage in their IVF cycle. That thread is much more active and you'll get fast support there.

Secondly, I know it's SO tempting to check for all symptoms that might suggest you're pregnant or are about to get your periods... but really, they might all be misleading. You're taking progesterone, and that can cause constipation among other symptoms, and these symptoms can be very misleading. Not to mention the impact of your stress on these symptoms, too. Alas! The only thing you can do is take it easy, not read your body too much (the more you check, the more you're likely to find something that freaks you out) and wait for that blood test. That, and only that will determine if your embies are in good shape or not. It's a sad reality, but it's the only one that's certain at that point, unfortunately.

Hang in there sweetie! I'm with you in thoughts and I hope you'll keep me posted (and join the Dec/Jan cycle buddies thread!)

Sophie

I was so happy to see the responses to your question. I just had my embryo transfer on 12/14 and I have been having the same exact symptoms. Don't worry about getting your period, from what I have read it won't start as long as you are on the medications. I am currently taking progestrone injections and 2 estradol tablets daily. Hang in there and know you have other's in your same situation.

Hi,
I know it is hard not to read into every symptom you are having while on the 2ww but the only way you can tell for sure is on your test day.
I wasn't lucky enough to have a fresh transfer as i was at risk of OHSS because they collected a lot of eggs but i've had 2 frozen transfers, i wasn't on any drugs for them though. My 1st i started cramping bad about a week after the transfer and 5 days before test day i started bleeding heavy, unfortunately i tested negative on test day. My 2nd FET again about a week after transfer i started having the same bad cramps as i had the 1st time so was expecting the worst, when 5 days before test day came and i still wasn't bleeding i decided to do a sneaky test at home which i immediately regretted because i knew it was too early. When i looked at the test when the time was up it showed a faint positive, i was in total shock. I took about another 4 or 5 tests over the next few days and they were all positive. The clinic finally confirmed our dream had come true and our gorgeous little girl Kady will be 7 months old on Boxing Day.
So all i can say is don't think it's over until you take the test because from my experience very early pregnancy symptoms and period symptoms were identical.
Good luck and i wish you all the best.
Take care,
Lotsa love

Michelle
