IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOLLICLES AND EGGS??

Post by 194208 »

Hi! When I had most post menstrual ultra sound (2 days before insemination) the doctor said I had 3 mature eggs. Is this different than 3 follicles? Should they have been mature yet? The doc said that was good...... Anyone with advice would be appreciated! Thanks alot :)

The egg is inside the follicle. That is why the Dr.'s will tell you that they see 3 follilces (or whatever number) on the ultrasound. We assume there are eggs in there, but sometimes the follicles are empty. When I had IVF my Dr. kept telling me she saw 4 follicles, so we wre hoping for 4 eggs. We ended up with 5. Sometimes you can't see them all.

If you were 2 days away from IUI I would think the eggs would have to be mature or really close. Hope this helps!

Hi Jenn,
Thanks :) . The doctor did say they were mature eggs, so hopefully that was good. But, my lining was thin 2 days before inseminatin too, so we'll see. It's hard to be optimistic under these disappointing circumstances, which all of the women/men on this site understand. Thank you for the info :P .
