To old friends!!

Post by jill dickens »

Hi,
It's so long since I have written here I don't know who will remember me now. I stopped writting after my last M/C as I found it too painful. I just wanted to pop on and give my good news after 9 years of TTC we went down the adoption route and we have just brought home our beautiful baby girl, we were placed at a year old. I can't believe how quickly we have fallen completely in love with her and she has bonded so well with us. I hope my story will be a help to some of you that may be going down the same route all I can say is our baby has brought sunshine into ours lives and she truly is our baby.
Much love to all and good luck at whatever stage of your journey you are at.

Hi Jill

I just had to post a reply to your wonderful news. I would really like to know more about the adoption process and your whole experience in getting your baby girl. We have decided to give IVF one more go in the new year and if it doesn't work this time to pursue the adoption route. We've been to a couple of open days and have been truly enlightened.

Hi Ems,
Thanks for the congratulations our baby is fast asleep in her cot she only moved in today. The adoption process took us about 2 years from start to bringing our DD home but the length can vary quite abit. The whole thing is very intrusive and hard work at times but also fun. You have to have medicals, get referees, get police checks, talk about your IF and your relationship, both your family history, work history, about where you live. There is probably more but I can't just think what else. We waited 8 months from passing panel to being placed again this varies considerably.
Anything else you want to know if I can answer it I will, good luck on your journey,
Love Jill x

Thanks for your reply Jill.

Its so great to hear happy endings!

When you started the adoption process were you asked what age child you would ideally like to adopt? I mean, is it possible to request a baby, how much longer is the wait, is this request frowned upon by the agency...?

Sorry to keep asking questions but all the info helps.

Thanks again

Hi Ems,
You ask away it's the only way to get the info you need. There is a long long list of things you have answer regarding what age/disability etc you would like/could cope with. We were fairly limited really but our SW knew we wanted as young a baby as possible. We were warned we would have a very long wait so couldn't believe it when we got the call about our baby. I think something to bear in mind is to be very honest when you say yes,no or limited to certain things like family background, disability, contact etc if you say yes just to look good it could back fire all these things are discussed in great detail through the home visits.
Hope this helps love Jill x

HI Jill

I remember you I think we cycled together one time.

I am so pleased to read you story. It is lovely to hear a happy ending. What is your little girls name?

We are on our last attempt at IVF. On the dreaded 2ww at the moment. We have decided enough is enough if this doesn't work and going down the adoption route. Was the two years from your intial app form to bringing her home.

Hope you don't mind me asking.

Take Care

lots of love christine xx

Hi Christine,
Ask any questions you want, I didn't stop asking throughout. Our adoption journey started in January 05 and we were placed with our baby in November 06 so not too bad of course it hasn't felt like that as our whole journey has been nine years! I am afraid I can't say her name on here because of confidentiality. Good luck with the your journey and feel free to ask me anything.

Hi Jill
our last Ivf ended in m/c at 8 wks. I am just about picking myself up again.

So adoption is def for us. We have recently filled in our application form to adopt and have had our crb checks done and they are ok. We are awaiting allocation of a social worker. They warned us it could be a while, as we have stated we would like a child as young as possible. Do you know roughly how long it took you from this point to being approved?

Also roughly what we can expect from our home visits?

Hope you are ok

luv christine x

Hi Christine,
I am sorry I have just found your e mail. I am so sorry about your recent M/C it will be a difficult time for I know from first hane experience do give yourself time to grieve.
Our prep course was January 2005 but didn't start home visits until November 2005 which was a very difficult wait. we finished that and passed panel in April 2006 and waited 6 months before we were placed with our baby girl who was just over 12 months old.
The home visits are emotionally quite hard as you have to go into your infertility experience, passed relationships, work, family history, where you live, get references, police checks, medicals etc so it's not to be taken lightly but you do each stage at a time so it doesn't seem too bad.

Write with any more questions and take care love Jill x
