New Member Has a Question!

Post by Hopeful2BPregnant »

Hi, I am new to this site. I am 43 and I will be going through my 2nd IVF in February. The first in October IVF resulted in a negative.

I had a question about using my husband's sperm. He had a vasectomy 10 years ago and my doctor said that his sperm was "immature" and that I should consider using donor sperm. However, the urologist that perfomed the procedure to extract the sperm said that is not a true statement. Is anyone going through this and have any information regarding this? My husband and I really want a biological child if it is at all possible.

Thanks for any help.

I've never heard that term, "immature sperm". My ex-husband had a vasectomy reversal. Afterwards, he produced sperm of average count, poor motility and morphology, but they just selected the best sperm and did ICSI. It is my understanding that ICSI will bypass most sperm problems. Is your RE doing ICSI?

Hi

my dh had Surgical Sperm Retrieval. The sperm cannot swim anywhere, it just "twitches". this means that you have to have ICSI where they inject the sperm right into the egg instead of IVF where they put the sperm and egg in the same petri dish and let the sperm swim to and penetrate the egg.

Please ask if you have any more questions, that is what we are all here for.

2 year break and vasectomy reversal for dh.
Consultation for 10th attempt using fresh sperm - Nov 09.

reversal

Post by seali »

Hi Hopeful2bpregnant,
We did go through a similar situation with a reversal. After our first ivf failure our dr. recommended a sperm donor (even though we had used icsi). We went back to the urologist who said my husband was fine. We have since then done two ivf cycles and he has been fine for icsi. Icsi should do it.
Good luck,
Seali

The first IVF was ICSI and the doctor said this was necessary mainly because of me (my eggs are harder to penetrate at my age). Thanks ladies for putting my mind at ease. We are going getting ready to go again in February and I'm really excited about the prospects of a GRAND NEW YEAR!!!!

I know 2007 will be a great year for everyone! :D

Thanks and good luck to each of you!!!
