Update from Sita's 1st scan - I am in shock!

Post by Sita »

Hi Girls,

Hope all of you are well.

I had my 1st scan yesterday and I was in total shock when the nurse said that the sack was too small and that there was no heartbeat. She found only one small sack.

The nurse was not confident that the embryo would survive as there was no heartbeat. She however aksed me to come for a scan next Wednesday (27th again) to know for sure.

The nurse even asked me to come off all the medication as she thought there was no hope. At this point, my heart shrunk and I was speachless. My husband was also in disbelief.

The Doctor came in a few minutes later and then said that I should continue the medication (i.e. the Progesterone and Oestrogen) as my cycle was FET and it sometimes takes a bit longer for frozen embryos to develop. Atleast this gave us a bit of hope so I am now continuing the medication as usual. I was numb for sometime yesterday because of the shock !

The nurse says that I am actually on week 7 ie. 5 weeks from the day of the FET + 2 for the period. She said that she expected the sack to be bigger at this stage. Is this how your week no. is also calcualted ? Please advise.

Please also let me know if you know of anyone who had a similar experience. I am so scared and my DH and I have been crying and are devastated. I have taken a day off today and my DH went in to work but is now returning as he is uanble to cope at work. I feel really bad for him as he is so sentitive.

I really need your help girls.

Love,
Sita

Oh Sita, so sorry to see your news.
I don't know much about this but if the dr said to keep taking the medication he must think that there is still hope. Have you in my prayers for next week. Look after yourself and Dh.

The way in which your weeks are calculated sounds about right to me. You might like to try the calculator on the bottom left hand side of the web page.

Bye for now
hugs

Sita, believe me when I say that I understand perfectly well what you are going through. Last week I was going through the same and I read a lot about it, I found that this happens to a lot of people and that the chances are like my RE said, 50/50, some women end up being ok, so they just assume it was a late implantation (like your RE told you), some others end up having multiples and that is why they were smaller but they couldn't see the second and/or third sac on the first scan and they see it later, and some others like me are just unlucky and things don't go right and we have to face reality the best we can and look forward for the next try.
In the meanwhile, I know this week is going to be hell for you, but try to act as if the baby is ok, because you have high chances of that being the case, so have PMA as all the girls say.......( I know it is hard but you have to, for your little one)
Hope I could be of more help.......
Good luck on Wednesday....
Vicky

Hi Vicky and Anna,

Hope everything is OK with you.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I have been resting today but have had very painful cramps and have been bleeding frequently.

Vicky, did you also have bleeding and cramps ? I now know exactly how you felt. I hope you are having a break my dear. You have also been in my thoughts and prayers.

I guess only a miracle could save the remaining embryo now. Thank you for your prayers. I will try and be positive. It is going to be a difficult week.

Lots of love,
Sita

Sita, I did not have cramps or bleeding, but cramps and some bleeding are normal in early pregnancy too, so try not to think so much......
Take care,
Will be thinking about you....

Thank you for the PMA and kind words Vicky, Suzhan and Smita.

I will try and relax. I am in bed most of the time as I am continuing to have heavy bleeding and painful cramps. The Doc has advised me to take paracetemol and just rest.

It is hard, but I am mentally preparing myself and any good news next week will only be a miracle.

Vicky, what tests did they recommend for you ? I was thinking of asking about these when I go next Wednesday.

Hope all of you have a pleasant Christmas !

Love,
Sita

Sita, I hope you are doing better, I know how hard it is this wait. I hope on Wednesday you get good news.
The tests they told me we could do were genetic testing for me and DH, and also some tests for me to rule out APS(antiphosopholipidic syndrome), and other causes of m/c.
Hope everything turns out ok for you....

Hi Smita, Vicky and Chel,

I had my scan today and it was finalised that I had miscarried. I have been crying my heart out, but at least now there is some closure.

I feel I have disappointed DH, my mother and MIL but they keep saying that I have not.

The doctor has asked me not to have the D and C as I have been clotting heavily anyway. She has asked me to go through a FET again (and have a fresh cycle later) but has advised me to take a short break and let them know when I get my next period.

I asked the Doc whether I could do some tests so that I can avoid this happening again, but she said there was nothing I could have done to prevent this. Also they are unable to do genetic testing becuase it is a frozen cycle. Is this right ? We are thinking of getting a second opinion.

Thanks for all your support and prayers. I am hoping that I will have the strength to go through all of this again.

Lots of love,
Sita
