Just a quick note....

Had my scan today and it was so exciting to see the little one (yes, there's just 1). His/her heartbeat was 158 but was only measuring 6 wks 5 days (doctor says I'm 7 wks 2 days, even though the ticker says 7 wks, 3dys - how confusing.....) Anyway, the doctor said this is nothing to worry over and that the days can be off by up to a week and still be fine. He said he could do the measurement three times and get three results because the difference in 3-4 days is only 1-3 millimeters right now.....But knowing me, I'll worry until next week's scan.

Cindy - got your pm, will send you one when I have a chance....

Noodle - congrat's on your scan!

Cheeky - glad to hear you're okay - was wondering what had happened to you!

Take care everyone! Sorry for the short post, will try to catch up more later.

Hi Girls,

Congratulations to all of you who have go through your scans this week and been sucessful. Hope you also had a good Christmas.

Just wanted to update you that I did not have a good 1st scan after I got a BFP. The nurse could not see a heartbeat and my sac was too small. I had my 2nd scan today and it was finalised that I had miscarried. I have been crying my heart out, but at least now there is some closure. :(

The doctor has asked me not to have the D & C as I have been clotting heavily anyway. She has asked me to go through a FET again (and have a fresh cycle later) but has advised me to take a short break and let them know when I get my next period.

I asked the Doc whether I could do some tests so that I can avoid this happening again, but she said there was nothing I could have done to prevent this. Also they are unable to do genetic testing becuase it is a frozen cycle. We are thinking of getting a second opinion.

I am hoping that I will have the strength to go through all of this again.

Good luck to all of you !!

Lots of love,
Sita

Sita - My prayers are with you - it is such an unfair thing to have happen after you get this far. Having been through a m/c with IVF, I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. I wish there was more I could say to make it better, but I know that only time will allow you to heal. Take care of yourself....

Here's a question that might seem a little odd, but for those of you with the BFPs, do any of you exercise? Or did you before starting IVF cycles? I'm just wondering because I just read an article online saying there is some indications that exercising during the months before IVF decreases your chances of success and it's got me wondering if I should knock off the cardio for a little bit. I cut way down while I was doing IVF, but since I'm just waiting now for next cycle to get here to start FET I've been doing more. Silly, I know, but if I should stop I will! Let me know what you think!

Meg,

I'd like to read that article! My wife likes to exercise and I'm concerned that it might not have done any good for the past ICSIs . . . I'd be grateful if you could perhaps give me the link or even an idea where to find the article?

Many thanks,

Crash.

Oh girls - I just dropped in to see how everyone was going. To be honest there are too many of you to remember where things were at when I left off

Mia - when are you having your FET

Cinders - triplets!!!! wow that is wonderful- instafamily!!! Good luck with your pregnancy

Noodle - congrats too
Jovigal!!! - well done congrats- brilliant news

Sassyinlv- I hope your cylce went well??

Cheeky - I have been thinking about you alot - so sorry to hear that you were hospitalised with OHSS - all those little embie dances we were doing must have gotten out of hand (lol) I hope you are now well on the mend, and good luck with that FET

Vicky - Oh my gosh, I am so sorry, your news totally bowled me. I can only imagine how devastating it must be for you both, I was a wreck and I only got to 4 weeks. It is not much consolation but time is a great healer. My thoughts are with you both.

Kristin - glad to hear about your visit with RE- it sounds positive.

I am off home to NZ tomorrow- my niece is now very sick- so my timing is good. Not a good visit but nice I can be there to help the family. I am feeling much better now I have some distance between me and that horrible negative result. Although a birthday and another year added to my age made me feel a bit desperate.. I am planning on doing my FET in February. Hope that there will be some Nov 06 girls to chat with.
To all I have forgotten - my best wishes.

Happy New Year.

Crash---Here's the link

http://www.medpagetoday.com/OBGYN/Infertility/tb/4207

What do you think? It makes me a little worried, but it's hard to say---I'm sure if I looked I could find articles that say exercise is good?

Meg,

Thanks for the link. Hmm - a tough one! However, reading between the lines, I get the feeling that "moderation" is the key here (as it seems to be with most things!)

I find it interesting to note that the exercise they're talking about (over 4 hours a week) has been done over a protracted period of time (we're talking years here!) So, I wonder if suddenly reducing the amount of exercise to somewhere below that "magical" 4 hours a week figure is actually going to make any difference in the short term? Probably not, in my opinion.

Personally, I think the article throws up more questions than answers. I think I'll advise my wife of the article and perhaps she may reduce the amount of exercise she does but, in my opinion, I think any detrimental effect that exercise has on the IVF process has already been done. Unless you've got a good 6 months to go before you start treatment, I don't think that you'll see much benefit.

Meg, I realise that this probably doesn't help you but (as you pointed out) I feel sure that if you look hard enough, there'll probably be an article somewhere on the net telling you that smoking 20 a day and drinking 2 bottles of red wine is the only sure way to living until you are 100! Yeah - there are articles for most things!

Let me know if you hear any other thoughts!

Best Regards,

- Crash.

Meg and Crash

I agree it is a strange article. Four hours of exercise a week doesn't sound excessive....

Also the study relates to 1 - 9 years of exercise. So I agree that if we've been exercising prior there's not much we can do about it now!

I agree that moderation is probably the key. A walk every day can't hurt surely!

That's part of my point, Fiona . . . the details are too sketchy - 4 hours a week . . . over the last 1 to 9 years!

Hey, don't sit on the fence, will you?!

"Splinters" and "bum" spring to mind

Best Regards,

Ok, I'll haul myself off the fence and say that I think
the article is a bit kooky.

I don't exactly knock myself out when exercising
any way and I reckon the benefits of a bit of
daily exercise probably outweigh any problems with
it, especially as it helps with stress management,
something we can probably all use at times during
this process.

Mind you, i read an article that says that stress doesn't
affect IVF outcomes...

Perhaps a bit less reading is in order for me...

Ahem . . .

Sorry Fiona! The fence comments weren't directed at you! Actually, I was having a go at the author(s) of the article and the "between 1 and 9 years" mullarkey!

"Wires" and "crossed" . . . :?

Best Regards,

- Crash.

Thanks, guys, I'm feeling better about it. I agree that I thought the 1-9 years thing was a little wishy-washy but you know how this process is--you get something in your head and it's hard to forget about it. I can't imagine that me getting off of my butt and sweating a little is anything but good for me---it's not like I'm a freakin' professional athlete or anything. I just was getting depressed about the weight I'd been putting on from all the hormones and thought a workout would make me feel better. From now on I'll stop with the guilt and stop reading crazy articles on the Internet that are just going to drive me insane. No more reading for me too, Fee!!!!

Meg- I have been working out all my life, jock in high school, not hard running or cardio. Since IVF started been doing 1/2 hour eliptical daily 7 days 2 days off, arm weights, sit ups and yoga, about 1 hour total. stopped day of egg transfer. i'm just not going to chance it right now, i know it's healthy to work out during pregnancy but I get enough exercise getting up and going to bathroom every 1/2 hour. i'm going to wait until 2nd trimester to resume just yoga and weights. between cycles I worked out like crazy to get my body back into shape for next cycle, didn't actually happen, the weight your body puts on with these hormones does not go away easily, the 6 weeks between cycles was enough to get me feeling healthy again, not looking great though. sorry if this was too long.
48Crash and Fiona- nice posts! I love debate, i haven't read article yet but had more issues with PMA when I did NOT work out.
Sarah V- nice to hear from you! You have lots of time, your still young! Please keep the faith, one day you will hold your baby in your arms!
Sita- i've been following your heartbreaking story, i'm so sorry and cannot imagine how you must be feeling.
cinders- i'm hoping for HB on next scan but they said probably not, my ticker is off (suzhan and I are both confused) I think i'm just 6 weeks tommorrow so next scan i'll be 6w5d, i'm trying not to get my hopes up for a HB until they tell me I should hear one, easier said then done.
suzhan-
congrats on scan!!! has DR given release for sex? our DR said OK yesterday, "if your comfortable" still very scared might wait until 2 more scans.
