Jovi: Good luck today!! Sometimes the cheap tests bring up a higher HCG level, and you may not be that high yet. Will your clinic call you in the morning with results or make you wait until the afternoon??? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

Hi all...
Thought i would check in w/you all...

Sita: So sorry to hear about your MC. Glad you and dh are going on a little "getaway". We'll be here when you get back...

Cinders: 3 strong babies. Fantastic news!!! I understand the decision you have in front of you is a difficult one. Don't have any info for you, just support.

jovigal: good luck today!!!

jordan: you clearly have the patience of Job! Will look forward to hearing about a BFP from you!

Suzhan: glad to hear the scan looked good. Expecting each scan will continue to bring you good news.

Vicky: I totally get the whole "told too many people" thing. I think it is a classic IVF'er mistake. My first cycle, all family and good friends knew, so i was getting phone calls every day during stims. The worst part of the whole cycle was having to tell people over and over that we didn't even have embryos to transfer. The last 2 cycles, very few people know the details, and i am much happier that way. Happy for you that you still have totsicles. Good luck in Feb FET!!

Crash: nice to have you join us here!

Ok, my $0.02 worth on the whole exercise debate (you guys were really burnin' up the broadband on this one :D ). I figure mild to mod exercise is not only good for the body, but also (and maybe in this case) most importantly for the mind. I was a long-distance runner, but have scaled back to long walks or light to mod eliptical workouts. Abstain all together for a good wk after transfer. I think that we seem to have no control over this whole process and how it turns out, that it is human nature to grab onto anything that may show slight detrimental or beneficial effects. I have to agree that moderation is the key...

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!! BFP for everyone!

Hi all, sorry been MIA for a while. Hope you all had a good christmas.
Sita very sorry for your news, i wish you well in the future and i hope your dream comes true.
Vicky glad you are able to move on, good luck with the FET, it is much easier on the body.
Hope everyone is okay.

Well i finally got to see the doctor and because i had a chemical pregnancy i have to wait two months, luckily AF arrived albeit a week late and i start downregging on Jan 10th so i expect transfer to be around Feb 5th if all goes to plan.
They said the embryo implanted but then stopped growing and didn't continue to become a feotus. i don't know if thats good or bad, but they won't do extra tests unless the same thing happens again, thats all well and good but every attempt is reducing the bank balance, the number of embryo's we have and i'm getting very close to 38.
anyway enough of a rant from me.
Hope you all have a fantastic new year and i look forward to us all becoming mums next year.

Wow, you ladies are busy in here - I turn my back for a moment and you're yakking away like crazy, aren't you? Yeah, I guess I should've learnt the traits of the fairer sex by now!

Sita. Very sorry to hear your news and although I can't possibly know what it's like to go through M/C (I'm a bloke!) I do know how it feels to be denied - albeit from a slightly different perspective. I wish you all the best and would advise you to "stick at it" and "keep your chin up" although I'm sure you've heard them before. Regardless, listen to the words and never lose faith.

Jovigal. Many congratualtions on your test results! As they say here in Germany - I'm pressing my thumbs for you! (It means, my fingers are crossed!!!)

beachbaby. A hug for you - if you're allowed to accept them from another bloke?! Our 2 ICSIs have failed with the embryo failing to implant and we still haven't been given any reason as to why - so I can appreciate how you're feeling. I'm wondering if it's a lack of Progesterone?

Here's my "bloke" understanding and perception (very much in laymans terms) - for what it's worth . . .

When a woman gets pregnant, the body releases Progesterone to "tell" the uterus not to let the endometrium "flush away" and thus provide a decent "bed" for the embryo to make it's nest in.

With IVF & ICSI - the body doesn't "know" it's going to be pregnant so this extra Progesterone has to be provided. On both ICSIs, my wife was given suppositories of 400mg Progesterone to use. This was done after transfer - again, for both ICSIs.

What I am wondering (and if any of you can help me here, I'd be more than grateful) is . . .

1. Is a daily dose of 400mg of Progesterone actually enough? Surely each individual body reacts differently and whilst the average may be that 400mg is indeed sufficient - what if in the case of my wife, it isn't and she simply needs more to tell her body not to get rid of the endometrium? I can't get an answer from Hammersmith on this - from them it's a case of, "That's how we do it," and there's no discussing it.

2. Isn't it leaving it a little late to begin taking the Progesterone supplements on the day of transfer? To my (simple, male) mind it would make more sense to start this at a lower dosage a little earlier (perhaps on the day of collection?) so that the body starts to build up a more natural Progesterone level? Whilst I will freely admit that my knowledge of female biology is quite limited, I feel pretty sure that during a natural pregnancy, the Progesterone "switch" doesn't suddenly "flick on" and pump out a daily dosage of 400mg . . . does it? :? :? :?

Anyway - there's a couple of questions I have been pondering over and perhaps some of you may be able to shed some light for me?

In the mean time . . . take care of yourselves and I'm going to take this opportunity to wish you all a very HAPPY and SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR!!!

Best Regards

- Crash.

Crash, about the progesterone, I think you are absolutely right. As a matter of fact, in my clinic, and in many others from what I heard from the other girls, they start giving us the progesterone right after the egg retrieval, not the transfer. And also they give us progesterone via intramuscular, which of course is more painful than pills or suppositories, but the absorption is the best of all, so if you think that is what is going on talk about this with your doctor.....
Wish you the best!!!

Crash: Ditto with what Vicky said. I started with progesterone intramuscular injections and suppositories. Since I have multiples, my levels were a little high, but am still on injections til 10 weeks as they absorb better than suppositories. I also started after ER. Good luck and advocate for yourself!!

Crash: just agreeing w/the girls above. I started IM Progesterone the day after retrieval. So 3-4 doses of IM Progesterone prior to the transfer...just for the reasons you mentioned. the only time i didn't start is was this last time since i was waiting a month to do FET. Hmmm... seems like someone @ your clinic should be answering your question... i think it is a very valid one!

Jovigal: fantastic news!!!! What a great way to start 2007!

To all my "Nov '05" friends, a fab and safe New Year's Eve. And here is to LOTS of babies next yr!!!

Thanks Tonia - are you getting excited about your next cycle? Not long now.... :D

Crash - I started Prog inj after retrieval also. I've read that injections are better received than the other 2 methods (supp. or oral). Also, the main reason RE gives you prog. is to take the place of the prog that you would have normally produced in your follicles and released during ovulation. However, since we have egg retrieval performed, the fluid is sucked out of the mature follies, therefore, you need the supplements. Did that make any sense at all? Sometimes, I can't spit out what I want to say... :) Crash, I would definitely discuss this with your RE.

Happy New Year everyone. 2007 is going to be a great year for all of us. LOTS OF BFP's!!!
