Anyone at the Royal Fertility Clinic in Belfast (K)

Post by Welshgirl38 »

Hi ladies,

Im looking for some information about the Royal in Belfast. Ive received a letter from them stating that i will be seen within 6 mths time, but i cant seem to find anything on the internet about them! Its either that or im really thick and am clicking on the wrong links lol. They have a general website for the hospital, but not for the IVF clinic.

I know that Kareen, went there and hopefully she will see this message, do any of u know anyone else who has been here that can help me.

Wishing everyone of u a Happy New Year and that all our dreams come true in 2007 :D

Thank u all so much ladies - i really thought we had made our decision in not going back for more treatment, but it has never been off my mind, niggling away. I really do want another baby and didnt know how to approach the subject with DH - after all the heartache we took in making our decision to stop further treatment, that was hard enough - then we got this letter from the royal. I had put the new clinic to the back of my mind, we had decided that was that - no more treatment, to give up and get on with our lives. But here it is in front of me in black and white - we should get an appointment within 6 mths. I am praying the the issues we had with frozen embryos isnt the same at this clinic.

Karina: Thank you for letting me know that ur at the royal - can u tell me (if u know) about their freezing procedures. the last clinic we were at would only freeze grade 1 embryos which upset me because we didnt want to leave our grade 2 embryos perish in a dish, when they could have been frozen and may have had a chance to make it. We were paying for the treatment but they still would not freeze them for us, so we decided to only fertalize 2 eggs (we had to waste a further 10 eggs!) these eggs did fertalize, but were only 2cell grade 2 and a 2cell grade 3, which they put back. If we had more embryos we would have had a better chance of better grading, but we were afraid of them letting them perish in a dish and we couldnt take that risk! Eventually after the BFN we decided to fight the clinic and our case was taken to the board, but still they refused to freeze all embryos - thats when we gave up!
I dont see a prblem in them freezing all embryo's, i do understand that some of the lower grading ones wont make the thaw, ut at least thats not letting them perish in a dish without even giving them a chance. We understand the risks of freezing and that some might not make it, but what we dont understand is - why wont they let us even try? We pay for our treatment, this isnt NHS - why cant we be allowed to give our embryos one last chance, if they dont make the thaw then at least we can say we did everything we could have done, and they are now in gods hands - I know a lot of ladies have heard my moans about this loads of times in the past, but its something i feel very strongly about.

I dont even know the statistics about the Royal, their website has no link to the IVF site, do u know anythng about this Karina - even a website i can go to to check. Im really afraid of going thru all this again before finding out anything about the clinic.

Im sorry this was so long, thanks for ur well wishes ladies :D

Hi

stupid question from me - have your embies gone now? would that mean you would have to go through a whole fresh cycle again?

i have never been lucky enough to have any to freeze but we were told that they would only freeze grade 1 empies but it wouldn't do any harm in asking if you go onto the hefa website you will get a lot of info about the royal there i am also a private patient at the royal unfortunately there seems to only be two clinics in northern Ireland unless you are prepared to go over the puddle i am here if you need me do you know who you will be seeing yet

Hi Shantala:

Its not a stupid question hun - u ask anything u want ....

We only had 2 embies, cos we didnt fertalize all my eggs. They put these embies back but sadley we got a BFN.

If we go again, then yes we will have to go thru another whole cycle.

Karina:

Hi, thanks for ur reply, even if it wasnt what i had wanted to hear :? I will however still ask the question, it might be worth a shot, or we might even go for fertalizing just 2 eggs again, i dont kow yet if i could cope with that.

Thanks for the info about the website, i will check that out later, for now i have to go and tax my bloody car  lol

P.s - I dont know yet who i will be seeing - that will say on my appointment i suppose, how long was u on the waiting list for ur first appointment, can u remember???
Thanks

ok, that makes sense. would you consider coming to england for tmt maybe?? i'm not sure about the freezing procedure here but i could find out. i guess you would only have to stay here for about 8 weeks or so and could stay with me if you wanted.

Awww hun,

Thats really really sweet and kind of u to offer. Its not that i dont want to lol, but travelling over to England would proberly be too much - having to give up work for 8 weeks etc would be a problem, and also family commitments - the kids ive already got maybe 18 and 16, but trust me - i wouldnt trust em for that amount of time lol

Its a lovely suggestion and i thank u dearly for it xxxxxxx

Hi Becky,

I've just been reading your post and i know that after the heartache of last time and the decision you came to,this must be really hard for you,i hope and pray you get the outcome you wish for..

Would it be worth getting in touch with the clinic or hefa just to ask what their procedure is,to save you going through the months of wondering what their policy is..

Love as always..Nicola..xx

if you are private then they are really quick from first referral to start of treatment it took 6 months i saw you already had children as long as they are over 16 then you will get 1 nhs treatment and they have upped the age limit from 38 to 40
