Im about to start my 2nd IVF attempt so will ask my doctor when I see him but the first attempt I was not shown the monitor so that I could see the embryos when he transferred them back - I am having treatment in Switzerland and he told me that "they dont do that at the clinic". However I have heard from friends in other countries plus see on TV that you are shown the monitor and 2 little dots that might be the embryos after transfer and that sometimes you are even given a photo! I am keen to here from those who have been shown and anyone that hasnt. I plan to ask my doctor why at our next meeeting and he is one of the best in the business but still Im keen to know why he doesnt show me..........
At my clinic they put a photo of the embryo on one screen
and then on the ultrasound monitor I was able to see it being
transferred. It was like a silver flash that then disappeared...
Quite interesting and a good distraction during the process! Fee
Ultrasound cannot see embryos at that stage. At about 150-200 microns, they are too small. What you can see is the small air bubble that is ejected as the embryos leave the catheter. This is indeed shown on a monitor. The main purpose of the monitor is for observing the catheter, for precise embryo placement. And yes, the air bubbles move around after this precise placement. This is seen often enough in ultrasound.
thanks for all these replies - it seems like I dont have to worry too much about not being shown anything on the monitor then and will just have to take his word for it that they are in there!
