Hi
I posted a while ago on the IVF thread. I had to have IVF and it was my first treatment as I have endometriosis, cysts etc and in the past have had a blighted ovum, D&C, miscarriage and Laparoscopy. This was the first IVF cycle and we could not believe it when we were told it was successful. They put 2 eggs back and 1 stayed. I am now 8 weeks pregnant but have felt ill from the very beginning. It started with Shivering and nausea then the cramps across my lower abdomen started and then red spotting and then brown discharge.
Last Wed I woke up to find red blood all over my pyjamas and panicked. We went up to the local Accident and Emergency where they kept us waiting for ages but eventually I saw somebody and they did a scan which seemed to be fine. They could even see a heartbeat.
However, I am still having tummy cramps, nausea all day and night, shivering and most of all every time I go to the bathroom and wipe there is red there. I went today to see my private doctor and he did not seem concerned, he wants to do a scan next week but I am very frightened and I feel that something is wrong. More than that I feel like whatever is going on is not normal.
Has anybody had an experience like this and had everything ok at the end? I just don't know what I should do.
First off, I would like to think they did some testing on you before they did the IVF cycle. However, I have been told that not all RE's do. Second, try your best to rest. I had two pregnancies that had full unexplained bleeding throughout the pregnancy. My boys are both heathly and very big. The bleeding is scary and very hard to deal with emotionally, but the best thing you can do is relax. After I had the boys, my OB advised me not have any more children due to the bleeding and risks to myself. However, I still wanted one more and I went to a great RE and explained my concerns and my problems. He ran extensive genetic tests on me since I also had 6 repeat miscarriages (three between each boy). As it turns out, I have MTHFR and I was pos for Lupus genes. Both of these lead to abnormal blood clotting and the only time they are a real problem is during surgeries and pregnancies. Often repeat miscarriages are the only symptom. This time I am being treated with aspirin, Lovenox and Folgard to thin the blood. Have not had any problems with bleeding at all during this pregnancy and I am past the first trimester. I think you should try your best to stay calm and speak with you doctor on an even level. Do the research and go in with an open mind. I have found that having more direct and detailed questions can often bring a doctor around to a more talkative approach. However, if you are still not happy with the DR, get a knew one. I went to 4 OB this time aaround before I found one I could work comfortably with. You are in charge of your own care.
