Karina:

When we asked to go on the list for the Royal, we asked to go as NHS patients, as my children are over the age of 16 - i have one aged 18 and the other turned 16 in August. I know that the law here in Northern Ireland has changed, and that we do get one free shot on the NHS (providing we fit their criteria - age = im 38 and one other which im working on - loosing weight lol ) im assuming we are on the waiting list for the NHS - altho we would be willing to pay should our appointment come thru quicker.

Nicola: Hiya hun xx How are u, lovely to hear from u xx.
Ive looked on the Hefa site and all the information gives about freezing embryos is that of - the clinic will decide weather they are healthy enough - so i guess im just gonna have to wait for our appointment, if the royal had an email that i could contact them on, i would ask in advance, but i cant seem to find any contact details, just a phoone number - maybe i should ring them - what do u think??

Thanks for all ur advise, love as always

hi becky.....

happy new year....

sorry for the delay.... computer trouble  ...............

im over the moon you got a reply from the royal....its just stomach churning its 6 months for an appointment....
i was the same... once it was established that we were going private then the appointments were basically within weeks....
i cant comment on freezing.... after we had 2 embryos transferred i was told the remaining 4 were no good for freezing...so if this treatment had failed we would of been back at square 1.....thankfully, it worked... as you know...
there isnt much info for the royal online.........on my old ivf notes provided by the consultant there, the only info regarding freezing is that they only freeze embryos that are of higher quality....
you should ring them and ask for leaflets etc to be sent to you....

i hope your future treatment leads to success....

best wishes..

bonbon - hehe...aaww, lovely!! you must be so proud. and to have one of each too!

becky - i would call them and ask them what their freezing procedure is over the phone. you dont want to wait 6 months and get disappointed...although hopefully it will be fine! do keep us updated. glad you left that other job as you didnt seem happy in that one from the start and the best of luck with your new one!!!

Hi Becky,

Def call the clinic and ask what their procedure is and ask for any info leaflets to be sent to you..

I was so thrilled when i read your post,i know the decision you made was hard,so i figure that this is what you really want, and i pray with all my heart your wish come true..

I sometimes find it hard to believe the friends i've made thru this infertility are based all over the world, and have kept me sane these last 9 months,i honestly couldnt wish for better friends..And if there was one plus point to all my heartbreak it was "meeting" people like you..

Love as always..Nicola..xx

Hey Ladies,
A bit of an update (if u can call it that!) I rung the clinic and spoke to the embryologist and she did state that they did only freeze grade 1 embryo's :(
When i explained about my concerns which are:

1: If all i had was a 4cell grade 2 embryo they would put it back and i would have a VERY good chance of a pregnancy - then why cant they freeze them to give them that extra chance (even if they dont make it - i would have tried) and not leave them to perish in a dish!
2: To me embryo's are babies from time of conception - when the sperm fertalizes the eggs, now weather these be grade 1, 2, 3 or even further down the line, they are still my babies, and i want to give them every chance they have got - after all i am their mother and i will fight tooth and nail for them.
3: We were willing to pay for the freezing, even if they are graded not so good. We arre fully aware that they might not make their grade, but to us - they are all grade 1. I explained also that we only fertalized 2 eggs the last time because of our concerns (and that we had to throw away 10 other eggs) and she agreed that this was cutting our chances way below the average, but it was a chance we was willing to take, cos we wernt prepared to leave our embies in a dish to perish!

She was very understanding and said that aslong as we were fully aware that the embryo's might not make the freeze, then she wouldnt have a problem freezing them :D
Wait - dont get too excited, she also stated that the DR's would also have to agree to it :?

So the bee all and end all of it is - im still none the wiser, but feel i have a better chance at this clinic than the last one! It is our last hope, so fingers crossed for me guys.....
Also i asked about the waiting list, and if i want to pay for 1st consultation, then i will get thru much quicker and find out my anwser. It being just after xmas, we are going to have to work out our finances b4 we decide - i will keep u all updated, thanks for being here for me and letting me rant about my concerns, u are all wonderful and i thank u xxxx

Hi Becky

Glad you got a bit of hopeful news. Fingers crossed you get to freeze all. We were going to have to wait over 6 months for our initial appt at the Royal so we paid privately for our first appointment to get the ball rolling then reverted to the NHS waiting list. Luckily we got to the top of the list for the following year ( works by financial year, so April 2006). And the rest is now history.

I wish you all the luck in the world.
