bleeding heavily whilst pregnant

Post by flowers »

Hi
Last week I started to bleed very heavily and pass large clots and cramp in my tummy. I was totally convinced that this was a miscarriage and really panicked, my husband came home from work and my mum and dad rushed over. I must have gone through at least 12 or more pads and towels and sheets. I rang my doctor who told me that it sounded like it was a miscarriage and to arrange for a scan to be done the following day. Two days later I managed to get a scan and was totally shocked and surprised to find that the baby was still there. Apparently I am 8 weeks 3 days pregnant. I was told though that I have a large bleed behind the sac of the baby and that I must be very careful for the next few weeks until the bleeding stops as it could dislodge the start of the placenta.
I am still bleeding slightly now, get cramps and feel nauseus and am trying to get an appointment with a new consultant who deals with high risk obstetrics.
I wondered whether this had happened to anybody else before and if so did the pregnancy last. I am so frightened that I am going to lose the pregnancy.
Thanks for your help

Hi Flowers,

I can't really help or offer any advice but I just wanted to say that I hope everything works out. It must be really scary. But try not to worry, if baby is still there and everything seems ok, then that's a really good sign.

Take care,
Claire

Hi Flowers,
I bleed for only about a day at 6 weeks and they told me I was bleeding from behind the placenta two. They said this happens sometimes when the placenta is still forming and growing up to 10 weeks. I remember the cramping, it felt like a really bad period. It stopped after a day and a half and all was well. When I went in for the scan at the ER, the doctor told me that there was a sac, but no hb, so this was probably not a viable preganancy. Then a week later at my fertility clinic, everything was fine. I am so sorry you are going threw this scare, but I'm glad you still found a baby in there. Good luck to you and baby and I hope your bleeding will stop soon. Take care!

Hi
I had a sudden rush of bright red blood at 10.5 weeks. I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. During the night the bleeding subsided and was replaced with dark brown blood for the next 3 weeks. The scan I had showed a perfectly healthy baby, but a 'pocket of blood' next to it. It seems the pocket of blood must have burst and then the remains of it came out over the next three weeks. It now seems to have stopped, thank goodness and I have another scan next week to check the blood has all gone.
I can completely empathise with how awful and scary it is. But if there's a healthy baby in there , we are very, very lucky. None of the doctors or midwifes have been able to tell me why it happened, because they don't know. I've been told maybe I ruptured something when I was being sick, maybe it's a leaky blood vessel, maybe the placenta came away etc etc.
They just don't know. Hang on in there, hope you feel better soon.
