Hi AJ, I got pregnant on my first IVF attempt and I did both reflexology and acupuncture. Don't know if these helped but I'm 7 weeks pregnant right now so I'm a believer.

Also, I did numerous IUIs and took a lot of Clomid with no positive result but I never tried either reflexology or acupuncture with any of these attempts.

Best of luck, KB.

Hi amanda i am starting meds again on 23rd jan and have bought a book on IVF by Zita West who is a top notch fertility expert with her own clinic in london. she tells you to try acupuncture at several stages during the ivf treatment but loads of other things as well such as keeping your abdomen warm with a hot water bottle before egg collection. She also recommends supplements to take at the correct time and its a good read. The doctors never tell you any of this.

good luck x

I'm a big fan of acupuncture! I did IVF #1/2 without it and #3 with it. It was a major source of de-stress for me, as I tend to be the overly nervous/worried type. I can't say, for sure, if it helped but there are numerous studies now that demonstrate great improvement in IVF outcome when proper acupuncture is performed straight before and after ET. The key is 'proper acupuncture'. They did one study where the needles were just randomly placed vs. proper needle placement and only the proper placement had an impact. So, make sure your acu has experience with IVF - in fact, ask him/her how many IVF clients they have worked with and what their success rate is. Anyone who seems anxious to answer your question may not be experienced.

In terms of other supplements, for my 3rd cycle, I took EFAs (for me I used evening primrose oil and flaxseed oil) for the months after my bfn up to the start of stims.) I stopped the EFAs when I started stims. I took co-enzyme q-10 also for several months and actually continued that through ER. Finally, I took l-arginine starting after my bfn and stopped when starting the lupron. Other than that, I just took a basic vitamin plus folic acid until ET, when I started the prenatals. I also used a guided imagery CD designed for IVF and tried to use it every day or so from stims through to the 2 ww. Most of this I learned from the Zita West book but also from "The Infertility Cure" by Randine Lewis. It's a Chinese medicine approach to infertility that I found informative, but it took a bit of effort to really absorb it.

Maybe obvious, but probably worth saying that cutting out the caffeine and alcohol may be important too for egg quality. I had never been told this and in my first two cycles, drank coffee and wine straight up to ET! This time, I quit caffeine a couple of months prior and cut out the wine a week before down-regging (and even before that cut it back to just 1-2 glasses per week.) What I learned is that your eggs start being produced 90 days before you ovulate - so what you do 3 months prior to ER is important to egg quality. Just something to consider.

Sorry to go on and on, but wanted to add my '2 cents' on this topic......

Best of luck, Ladies!
