Hi everybody,

Story so far:
10 days into my third IVF - 38 - unexplained - mighty pissed off. Clinic 90 minutes from work ...on a good day.

Chapter 1
I decided for the first time to go to GP, and ask for some time off. I work shifts in a large organisation, with the alarm going off at 4, three times a week - added to that nights and a few day shifts. This often means scuttling off to the disabled loo mid morning to do some pricking/injecting.

Anyway this time, as it was my third attempt - stab (!!) I thought enough, is enough - I'll go to GP I asked for the grand total of 4 weeks. Yup a lot - but I saw nights looming and this would relieve me of those. The problem is whenever a hospital appt. comes up I have to pander to the secretaries and change my shift - sometimes they 'kindly' get me to come in late - then finish at 1 am...

Now, what my boss has decided to do is to PLUNDER my holdiay entitlement and use that to cover 2 weeks of my sickness. ARGH! He thought I had rather a lot, banked. I had saved that precisely for post IVF failure. I am really pissed off, as I have been jumping out of bed at crazy hours for 13 yrs. and this is the first time, I have asked for help. The past IVF treatments I have used leave, because I wanted to keep things quiet, low profile.

I am simply asking for too much, I know that for some this request would be out of the question.. teachers etc.. but anyway, just wanted to vent spleen..

Really should start a NCB thread and join the other girls.

Nicky, Phil and Molly the dog.xx

I warn boss - and guess
TTC. 4 yrs. Unexplained!

Thinking it ain't gonna happen.
nicky, vent away...
have you checked this with your hr dept? can your boss really decide that you must take your holiday entitlement to cover off your sick leave? seems bad practise to me particularly for a large org.

well i hope that you need not have any time banked for post ivf failure however you might have wanted a few days for post ivf celebrations... if so then just go back to your gp for more time. whatever happens don't let anything get in the way of what you're doing.

best wishes (and check with hr!)

phil
Nicky

I would be surprised if your boss could get away with this. If you have a sick note signed by your gp then you are off on the sick. That shouldn't be over ridden by anything else, as far as I know.

Please do as Phil says and check with HR.

Good luck with your treatment
Lisa xx
