Hope you are having a wonderful New Year so far.
I just had a M/C at 7 weeks and now looking at what my options are. A collegue at work who's daughter also had PCOS was advised to go on Metphormine and fell pregnant a few months later. Her partner did not have any issues, so I guess it was more straight forward.
I was wondering whether any of you had a combined issue of PCOS and low sperm count for DH/P and then tried Metphormine. Has it worked for anyone ? I would love to hear of any experiences.
I have never used Metphormine. Is it similar to the clomid ? I remember the last time I used clomid I did not have any follicles and had sever pain and bleeding.
I was thinking of giving Metphormine a try before I start on a new FET cycle. My current consultant never looked at any other options but I am keen to try different things to see if it will help as I am deperate.
I would really appreciate your views and comments on this.

My specialist initially tried me on Metformin prior to me starting on Clomid.
As I understand it, Metformin is a pill which is commonly used
by diabetics. I think it has been used with some success for PCOS
girls because we tend to have issues with Insulin. (having said that
I am not insulin resistant).
I had real problems with Metformin. I was prescribed a low dose
with two pills per day. After the third pill I was hit by hypoglycaemia
and spent most of the day lying on the floor in my office and freaking out.
Needless to say I stopped taking it. I think my reaction to it was not
that common and that it has had positive results with PCOS girls for
regulating ovulation (often in conjunction with Clomid) and for some reason it is often also taken in early pregnancy.
That is my limited knowlege of Metformin. If you google PCOS sites
I'm sure you will be able to get more details.

I have pcos as well and I asked my doctor to perscribe Metphormine for me which he was happy enough to do but he didnt think it worked.
I only took it for a little while and it didnt seem to help me at all. I am an average weight of 75kgs and dont have any insulin problems though. My only signs of pcos are cysts on my overies and lack of periods and infertility.

I wanted to drop in and give my story.. I have PCOS and I have been on metformin for over 2 years. It does take some getting use to in the begining. My doc made me start very slowly with 1 pill than 2 weeks later 2 pills a day and now 3 pills. The metformin can help PCOS ladies with ovulation and helping to maintain a pregnancy. PCOS ladies have a higher rate of miscarriage (from the reading I have done). I was on metformin before my IVF and I Did get preg however sadly I lost the baby early on. My DH does have a lower SA count so we were going to try IVF again. In the meanwhile I did accupuncture and kept on the metformin. I have read more than one article about how accupunture has had great success with PCOS patients. I fell pregnanty natrually on my own so I have to say I strongly belive in using metformin and accupuncture. These are just my opinions so I hope you dont mind me sharing.. From what I have read PCOS is treated very differntly by many different doctors.. I chose the metform route and for me it did help with ovulation. I did my BBT chart for months before taking met and I had no spike or ovulation as I started taking it I could see the spike indicating ovulation..

Then I went to a natropath who claimed that it was not a good idea for me to be on it, so I got off it again.
I left the natropath in 2005 as I felt I was getting nowhere and went to IVF. My FS advised that as Metformin would take a couple of months to start working, and as I was ovulating reasonably regularly, he didn't think it was necessary for me to be on it. Unfortunately the IUIs didn't work.
I changed gynaecologists and was advised to go back onto Metformin as there would be a longer delay until the next treatment (at least 6 months). My gynae also told me that there was a much higher chance of miscarriage if I wasn't taking Metformin. I'm now on 1500 mg, and the good thing about it is that it is slow release, meaning I haven't had the initial hypers and hypos I had the first time around.
I won't be able to tell you if this makes a difference using IUI until much later this year, but I do feel as if I have a lot more energy.
