The pill before IVF

Post by NickiMark »

Just spoken to my nurse at clinic who says i may have to go the pill before i start down regging, can some one pls explain this a bit clearer for me!!

What does this do??? and why??

I am guessing coz i am doing egg share i need to tie in with my recipiants, so we both bleed on the same day, I remember in the old days when i didnt want my period i would just keep on taking the pill, and yeah!!! no period, i am guessing this will stall my period, but why stall mine, why not stall the recipiants??

Can anyone explain clearer for me???

Hi Nicki, it doesn't have to do with you being donor or not. I am not in egg share program and I am also started on BCP's before each cycle, and I heard many of the other girls doing so as well. It is basically part of the suppression cycle, like lupron, the pill also helps suppress you, and then the next cycle is the stimulation cycle...
Hope I didn't make things more confusing

Let me know if you have any more questions...

and GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CYCLE!!!!!!!!

My RE said going on BCPs before does a few things:

- allows them to manage the start of your period more effectively
- makes your pre-cycle hormones more controlled
- reduces androgens (male hormones) in your system which is bad on egg quality

I always had to have once cycle w/ BCPs before starting into the stims. Basically, we started lupron at the end of the BCP cycle, then you'll get your period a few days after your stop the BCPs while still on lupron and they'll do you cycle day 1 check and if all looks good, you'll start the stims!

Good luck!

I 'm on it here in Australia too - another reason is for the clinics to manage everyone's cycle - I was told I could be on it for 4 to 6 weeks - I view it like being in a "holding pattern" whilst I wait for instructions on when to start the nasal spray. My clinic seems to be busy with the New Year everyone starting new cycles............

Nicki, just curious, have you had your fsh level measured. Mine was high - 14 and RE decided not to do BCPs because i was suppressed enough.
