food aversions- will they last forever??

Post by Claire »

Hiya,

I'm nearly 13wks and I'm still really struggling to eat properly. And cooking's out of the question! I'm worrying that I'm not getting enough nutrition, but I can't stand the smell of food.
Meat, most vegetables, anything hearty is the problem. And what I can eat, I can't eat in large quantities. And I'm hungry most of the time.
I've been like this since about wk 6 and I can't ever imagine sitting down to a proper meal again.

I'm not being sick, just feeling it and wretching.
Has anyone else had such trouble with food?

I've been exactly the same. I used to be so good - eating lean meats/chicken and fresh vegatables - every day before I was pregnant. Since week 6/7 I've been unable to eat anything like that. I nearly have to force any food down and pray it stays down. The one thing that seems to agree with me has been fruit smoothies, which I read about from another lady on this board. I have them add protein powder to try and get a little protein, since I don't get much protein otherwise. For some reason, today I'm starting to feel better. The other thing that I can eat is soup to try and get some vegatables, like cream of brocolli or basic vegatable soup. From what I've read, this isn't a big deal in the first trimester, but you're starting into the second trimester, so you probably do need more nutrients now. I hope you can find something that will agree with you and above all that you'll start feeling better soon!
