Can anyone help me make sence of this.I had a scan this morning and the three follicles i had ,have not grown since last thursday there were no follicles on my left ovary and treatment was stopped.

I was in such a state and still am ,i don,t understand what this all means.

The consultant said she cannot make me responed to treatment. If we tried again we would have less than a 5% chance.I have responded to treatment the way they would expect a 47 year old to.I am 32, this was our first appempt at IVF.We have had many tests and infertility was always unexplained.

The clinic is going to review our case on thursday but they said it could be 4 weeks before my appointment to discuss this in detail.

Has this happened to anyone else.Does this mean i do not have any eggs.I am devastated,we were so excited to finally be doing this treatment.Told everyone, took week of work for e/c and e/t now i just want the ground to swallow me up.

I hope someone can help.
Love mel
Mel

So sorry to read your news. I know how 'exciting' your first cycle can be (i'm on my first 2ww). I'm afraid I'm not an expert on ivf, I'm doing diui but I wanted to post you a message to say 'hang in there' the doctors I know take a long time to discuss things and it could be a while before you find out any explanation.

In the meantime, spend some quality time with your dh and be patient.

Love Lisa x
Hi Mel
I really feel for you, what dose of gonal F were you on? Did they try and increase the dose? try and stay positive and don't panic, some girls are poor responders to the drugs and it may mean that they need to try a different regime. I think you should have a look round the websites to find info on what causes this and write a list of all the questions you have before you go and see the consultant. I know your feeling upset, I found out I had poor quality embryo's on my first IVF and I was gutted but at least I know why I can't get pregnant there is a reason and also a solution. Try and be positive that this is the beginning of finding your solution and getting you one step closer to your dream.
I hope this has helped,
big hugs
Aly
x

Hi Mel, I was sorry to read your post, I know how frustrating it can be and there are so many unanswered questions. I had my first cycle abandoned due to poor response but since then they have tried different drugs and different strengths of drugs and I have made enough follicles for et twice now , though unfortunately both negative results. I am surprised your clinic seems so negative, like Aly says, make sure you have all your questions written down when you go again. They have to guess on your first go what drugs you need and what strength so they can't always get it right first time as we are all different.
Hope this puts your mind at rest a bit,
lots of love
Kat xx

Mel

so sorry, you must be gutted. I agree with aly and Kat that it seems very early in the day for your clinic to be saying such negative things to you without any analysis. As far as I can remember from what my doctor told me, if you had suffered an early menopause that would have shown up in your original hormone profile you took before starting the treatment. Are you close to London? I go to the ARGC and they are used to having people transfer there who have had a poor response from other clinics. seems like you may have been on the wrong regime or the wrong dose. did they do any blood tests at all before you started stimming or whilst you were stimming? One thing occurs to me that you may not have been down-regged properly in the first place and that your natural cycle may be intefering with the drugs. not sure if this would produce a result like this but it's worth asking someone. the other possibility is that you have a cyst on your ovary which they should have removed before starting treatment as I know this definitly inteferes with the drugs. I have not had experience of this myself as I normally am at the other extreme - producing too many follicles - I'm currently coasting whilst they wait for my oestridal levels to go down so I don't get ohss- I'm also concerned they may cancel this cycle. Do keep on asking loads of questions and if you're not happy with the answers you get try another clinic. Traci knows all about this. HFEA produce a league table of the clinics - it may even be on this site I think. best of luck. i know exactly how awful you are feeling right now, but sleep on it and get a consultation with a clinic arranged as soon as possible. tell your clinic you're going to swap clinics unless they see you within the week as I don't think it's acceptable for them to keep you waiting round in your situation, but make sure you make them give you all your medical notes, to which you are entitled. beckym xxx
Mel,
Sorry to hear that this has happened to you, it must be so disappointing after all the waiting for IVF! I agree with Becky that it doesn't seem right that they keep you waiting 4 weeks without any real answers. If I were in your situation, I think I would start to make enquiries about other clinics and unless yours get their act together quickly, maybe move on.

As this is your first attempt, I would think they must have lots more investigating to do and drug regimes to try out.

Hope this is a temporary hiccup and that you move forward again soon.

Take Care, Rach X
Mel
Do Not panic yet , I had the same happen to me I have a high Fsh of the first time it was 6.4 , 10 and 12.3 and I produced 5 eggs with - result the second time 3 small follicles and they were going to abandon me untill I kept pushing them to let me go further anyway after 14 days of stimming I managed 4 eggs but still - result , they then told me 5% next time and I was devestated so I upped sticks and went to another clinic , a Care one they have them in quite a few places with 47% success Rate and they gave me great hope in all the protocols they do , Please ring me if you want , get my email from my profile and I will email you with my number. as it is I was going to try a short protocol with the new clinic but my FSH rose again to 16 so I decided to get an egg from my cousin!!! but if your FSH is high this will be why you responeded badly , you can go up to 450iu of drugs , what dose were you on ?

Id love to put your mind at rest as I know exactly how you feel.

Trace x
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Hi Mel

Sorry to hear about your treatment,I know how you feel, I went to my clinic yesterday for day 9 bloods and scan and was told I had few follicles and the chances are my treatment would be stopped. Like you I felt devasted this is my first Cycle of ICSI due to mf but after yesterday I began to think I have problems too. I was started on 150 units of puregon which was put up to 200units from day 6. My clinic too were very text book when talking to me about cancelling my treatment. I didn't expect a hug but what I did expect was a good explanation and a plan what to do next. I expressed my feeling to the clinic that I was not ready to cancel they are now going to review me on friday.

Press your clinic for an eariler appointment and write all you questions down, if need be go over and over the answers until you fully understand, I got my DH to ring clinic this morning as I am in no emotional state to understand what is being said. Don't give up do your own research on the net. You have only had 1 cycle,it is far to early for your clinic to make such descisions.

Best wishes,

Vicki B xXX
Mel,

Hya. Just wanted to say that you are not alone. This happened to me in June. I am now in the middle of my third IVF.

My situation. Like you, Unexplained. FSH 7 ish. Just 38 ! First IVF successful treatment but no success, if you know what I mean. 8 eggs, 5 embies etc.. pretty average.

Now on the second one, they gave me Gonal F on a low amount of 150, cos they said I had good ovarian reserve. (That was the same amount that I had first time round) I felt fantastic, healthy etc... even pedalled to the clinic (!) but woops - after Day 8 they noticed that follies had stopped growing, took blood test, no oestrogen. etc.. Treatment abandoned. I was mighty pissed off as it was our ONE NHS go too! But phew, we can still have our NHS go again, as it was abandoned. (the one I am on at the moment)...Now what my consultant said was that quite simply - Don't Panic. Sometimes your hormones simply do not respond. Bizarre, eh?

I have also asked if anyone had the same problem. Many wrote back to say they had similar experiences. Same advice, very unfortunate but don't panic. One girlie had subsequently became preggers the next go.

I hope this helps. The 1st IVF is always a bit of a trial run. I think 75 is quite low (if it is based on my initial dosage) .... Now the slightly scarey thing is this time they were going to kick start me on 300 (double what I had initially) so I am a little anxious. FSH crept up to 8.3.

Wishing you masses of luck and giving you hugs etc..

Nicky, Phil and dog, Mollyxx
Hi Mel, sorry to hear your 1st tmt has been cancelled - you build yourself up for the cycle and then when something like this happens its devastating1
Like the other girls have said - don't give up hope there are other tmt centres out there who if your unit aren't willing to try you on another drug regime will.
We had our 10th tmt and this time travelled from Scotland down to Care at the Park in Nottingham as we felt we'd been written off by the 2 units we'd previously used up here. After a lot of further tests and treatment for the problems detected I'm now 10 weeks pg. So don't give up hope - keep searching for answers1
Take care,
Di
Hi Mel, in answer to your questions, my clinic told me I would have my period 2 weeks after they stopped the drugs but it was 4 weeks before it came so don't worry if it doesn't come. The drugs messed up my cycle but mine was back to normal after the first month. My next cycle was cancelled too (but by me that time as my husband had an accident) but the next two produced enough eggs for ec and et. They just have to try and find the drugs that work for you and sometimes that takes time. I have gone up to 6 amps menopur which seems to work for me, I think that is the most you can have.
Re donor eggs, I am still holding out for a positive as I cannot imagine what I will do if it doesn't work eventually with my own. With people like Di around here to give us all hope I haven't let myself think past the next cycle yet, I'm having another in January so am crossing everything for that.
Best of luck and do ask as many questions as you want at the clinic as I have found mine don't tell you unless you ask, and don't be worried about asking again and getting them to explain properly.
Lots of love
Kat xx
