IVF - NEW

Post by jenn1979 »

HI EVERYONE. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE JUST STARTING THE IVF PROCESS, AND WE ARE SO EXITED, BUT SCARED TOO. MY HUSBAND HAS NO VITAL SPERM DUE TO CHEMOTHEROPY. HE HAS BANKED SPERM HOWEVER IT WAS BANKED AFTER HIS FIRST CHEMO TREATMENT, THEREFOR IT'S NOT 100%. NOT SURE OF HIS LEVELS, BUT WAS TOLD THEY WERE GOOD. WE ARE BOTH 27. I AM HOPING THE AGE FACTOR WILL HELP US. CAN ANYONE TELL ME BASED ON MY SITUATION IF THE ODDS SEEM GOOD?? I KNOW IT'S HARD TO SAY, IS FROZEN SPERM A DISADVANTAGE COMPARED TO LOW SPERM COUNT IN NEW SPERM??

ANY INFO WOULD HELP...THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi Jenn,

It doesnt matter either way are both good. Dont worry with IVF you have options to just take one sperm and insert it into the egg directly or a bunch of them and see which one makes it into the egg. Maybe in your case they will do the first. My fiance and I had to do it that way because he has a low sperm count only 300k. Your odds seem great!!! I would just find a very good doctor thats most important!

Good luck!!! :D

Hey Jen

Not sure about the scientific stats but frozen sperm definatley works. Lance Armstrong the cyclist banked his prior to Chemo and he has three kids now...

Hi Jenn,

I also think it doesnt matter either way are both good. And as Wendy wrote you dont need to worry with IVF you do have options to just take one sperm and insert it into the egg directly, that is what DH and I did and we now have a wonderful DS (nearly 2) and we have just starting IVF/ICSI again for baby number 2 or 2 and 3.

A very good doctor is important and one that you are very confortable with!

Good luck and ask as many questions I got heaps of help and advice from forums like this...

My husband I just had our egg transfer yesterday on our first cycle of IVF/ICSI. I have PCOS and my DH has Congenital Absence of the Vas Defrens, therefor my husband had to have his sperm surgically removed and frozen. Then we had the sperm in jected into the eggs (ICSI). We transferred 2 beautiful embryos yesterday, and will hopefully hve 2 frozen. Just for some stats, I am 26 and DH is 27, and our Dr. believes we have age on our side. Good luck to you and your DH and especially to DH in his recovery!
