Birth control??

My clinic advised that I will need to start the birth control for one month prior to starting meds. anyone else have to do this??

I took BCP (birth control pills) for almost 2 months when starting my IVF cycle. I started BCP and then after about a month i added Lupron shots adn then stopped the BCP and added the stims. I think alot of clinics use BCP to gain control(so to speak) over our natural cylces. That way they can get our body and uterus into perfect shape for the upcoming IVF process.
I did find it kinda humerous to be on BCP knowing that we wanted to get pg--seemed kinda redunant--but it worked i am 23 weeks pg after our first attempt at IVF. I was on BCP for almost two months but I never took the row of the week you should be on your period. My Dr. informed me that this helps your body keep the eggs you have right now to add to your numbers and it must of worked because I had 46 eggs at retrieval time. It does seem strange though to take them. Then, I too, started Lupron and 86'ed the BCP.

I am on BCP for 30 days, only take active pill per Dr. request, The Dr told me to take another 15 more days, then stop, waiting for the period to com, then we can start to stim, well somehow i have been spotting for the last 2 days, almost like light period, even though i am on the BCP??????

Any of ladies have answer for me??

I had spotting for 4 weeks straight on BCP's. It was very frustrating but my Dr. said it was normal and nothing of concern. When I went off BCP's and just had straight Lupron, I practically had a normal period. My Dr. informed that was a good thing and normal as well. I guess I just wasn't expecting it and was looking forward to AF taking a nice long vacation!

I'm starting my 2nd IVF cycle and had to be on birthcontrol for about a month prior to both. I started Lupron 10 units right away and stopped the birth control, than AF arrived. My next appt. is a week from when I started the Lupron. I was confused at first as to why the BC but it is normal procedure.

Hi All,

I took my last BCP on 12th which is 3 days ago, i started 10unit Microdose Lupron this morning, stimms starting on 17th, according to the plan, you should have your period on day 2-3 after you stop the BCP, will my AF still not coming yet, i was on and off bleeding though while i was on BCP, then bleeding stop 15 days ago, Do i should check with DR? do you have to have period to start stim? Is this normal??

Luckygirl - I started Lupron on the 9th and got AF on the 13th, my next appt. is tomorrow so I'm not sure yet when I'll start the other meds. Maybe you will still get AF within the next couple of days, are you getting any symptoms? Is there a nurse at your dr's. office you can contact?

How long after starting birth control do i have to wait to have unprotected sex? I've never used birth control before, and I've just recently become sexually active. Me and my boyfriend always use a condom, but decided sex would be better without one. I'm going to start taking birth control soon, but would like to know how much time I have to wait for us to eventually be considered "safe" without a condom. I have an irregular period, which is another reason I want birth control (to make it regular).
