First Baseline w/cyst? Advice?

Post by hopeful13 »

Hi! I had my first baseline ultrasound yesterday which showed a 2cm cyst on my righ ovary. They took my levels yesterday as well and told me I'm fine to "proceed forward" at this point. I start my stim's next monday. I have read on-line about how you can't start IVF if you have cysts? I also read that if you have a cyst before starting your stim's - that the stim's will only make your cyst grow and it could possibly burst.
I have a call into the nurse as I thought of all this stuff through the night and now have a bzillion questions. But thought since a lot of you are way more experienced in this you could help me out....or may have answers on why they'd tell me to go forward w/a cyst? I'm confused.

Thank you!! :P

Hi there. I have a cyst on my right ovary that's 4cm. I was told it wasn't a problem and even if it bursts it just absorbs into your body and does not harm anything. Also, when you start the bcp it usually bursts the cyst. If not you're still ok. Hope this helps.

Hi Jenn

I'm past my bcp - and I have this week left of Lupron and then start my stim's next Monday........that is what I'm confused about.....is it ok to have a cyst but them to tell me they are still starting me into my follistim & repronex ?

I'm just freaking out about it.......as I haven't read about anyone who has a cyst at the point that I'm at now ? ? ?

Thank you! :D

I am not at your stage yet, however my doc said that the only possibility of the cyst effecting the whole process is that I may not produce as many folicals on the right side because of the cyst. It is very common as a women to have cysts so I really wouldn't worry too much. I trust they know what they're doing.
Keep me posted, i'd love to know how things go for you.
Good luck!

Hi, I seen your thread and quickly remembered how scared I was with my first IVF and a cyst. My doctor explained that there are different types of cyst that have different functions. Mine was a nonfunctional cyst and therefor I went ahead with the IVF proceedure. We discovered my cyst just a few days before I started stims and I had no problems. I have had cysts before and had a couple of them burst. That can be painful depending on whether or not blood vessel burst with the cyst.
I would try not to worry to much and believe in your doctor. You have so many things to worry about during an IVF that if possible let this one go. I wish you the very best and pray the your dreams are answered!! Good Luck!

Jill

Thank you so much for your post - that really put my mind at ease. The cyst they saw they originally said it was "clear" and seemed to be a typical cyst - I had endo removed approx 6 mo's ago - and also had an endometrial cyst on my right ovary removed at the time.
When I finally spoke w/the nurse yesterday about my "fears" she did tell me that after reviewing my ultrasound more the cyst did appear cloudy at the top....and it could be an endometrial cyst. Once again I was too scared to ask at the time what that could potentially mean......

Do you know what that could potentially mean? I should try not to worry but I'm just so scared.

In addition I feel like the biggest wimp........I'm only on day 7 of Lupron and I have had blurry vision, migraines, sick to my stomach, back pain, breast tenderness.......my friend went through this and I never heard her complain - never heard her say one bad thing. Every night that I take a shot I want to cry thinking can I really do this? Next week I'm already dreading my repronex & follistim shot in addition.......I feel like I just don't know if I'm strong enough to go through this.

Hopeful13, Hey girl, I know it is hard and it is really scary all at the same time! I was nervous about how I would react to the medications since I work full time and my dh and I run a small business. For me the first few days were the worst! Once my body began to accept all the medications and constant changes it got easier. I think the fear was the hardest part and I am not even afraid of needles. Okay other than the PIO shot and honestly they were not so bad. I gave them to myself but quickly learned to hot pack the injection site afterward. Use this site and join the thread for this month. The ladies are all so helpful and supportive and understand what you are going thru. I am currently on vacation to relax my body and mind before I start again in March. Good luck to you and every time you give yourself that shot and start to cry picture what you are working so hard for...a beautiful, healthy baby!!!

Cyst

Post by rollerj »

I too had a cyst on my baseline ultrasound. I had a lap in July 06 to romove endo, a tube and cysts on both sides. I was very surprised to see a cyst and endo back so soon. I did my first IVF cycle in Jan and got a BFN last Sat Feb 3. I did not have any mature follicles on the side with a cyst. I had 6 embies, 3 were A quality and I did a day 3 tsfr of 2 of them and froze 1 A and 3 C's. I have to wait a month to do the fet. If that doesn't work I'm having another lap done in the summer and off again. All of this was very stressful for all of us. I didn't think I would make it through either but looking back the worst part of it all was the initial 9 blood tests and I'll definately do it again. Good luck to you.
