Endometriosis and IVF

Post by hrobinson »

hello!!! I am new here, but just noticed Denise has severe endometriosis, and is going through invitro.
I had a tube burst 6 years ago and was diagnosed with endo. I went to Bend, Oregon to be operated on. The endo was much more severe than origanally thought. It was in my bowels, my diaghram, my bladder etc. The doctor told me that it was the worst case he had ever seen. However, he said he got it all and I should have no problems getting pregnant.
A year later, still nothing.
so, I started the IVF process. We were successful on the first try. I have a beautiful baby girl. (she is almost 2).
Last summer we decided to do it again. When I went to the doctor, he said I had polyps, so I couldn't proceed at that time. He also said that my endo was back. I have been having symptoms of it since he told me. (I am sure some of them are in my head).
We are now looking at doing a polisectomy (to remove the polyps), then doing an SHG and proceeding from there.
Any idea on the success rate with endo?

Thanks in advance for any help

K-rose, the protocol is just to relax and not lift anything, no hot baths, no sex etc, etc. Continue to inject the progesterone and relax. There is no formal bed rest recommended, but they say to take it easy for the next 48 hours.

Hrobinson, I am not too sure on success rates, but since you have had a successful procedure in the past, it looks great for you. One thing that Dr Zeringue mentioned to me was that ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), helps increase the rate of implantation in women with endometriosis but as of late, there does not seem to be a definitive reason why, it just seems to work.

Here is a link of info on endometriosis and IVF, I hope It helps :)

Amy, hi! The 2ww is going ok, I am just excited for Monday to come... Can I get my time machine back from the shop already?!?!? How are you doing? I found an interesting site that offers IVF grants. I am not sure how the process works but it does not hurt to look:

Denise, good luck for Monday.

I am going crazy. I don't know why, but I am so stressed for my next blood draw on Monday. I'm sure it's not good for my body to be so stressed. I did do acupuncture last night and do feel better. I'm going to Tahoe for the weekend, so hopefully that'll help pass the time. I even bought another home pregnancy test to make sure the line was getting darker. Funny thing is, is that my line was actually darker than the test line!!! I atleast felt a little better after that. It just seems like so many people have been having miscarriages lately on this forum!!!

Denise~ Thank you so much for the grant link. That is a great opportunity. I am not sure we will qualify, but I will certainly fill it out. It is worth a shot. Are you doing your blood draw at the Quest Labs?? They can be very busy first thing in the morning... which is when I always got there. It is hard to compete with old people that have been fasting. Moral of the story is - arrive early. Second piece of advice - try to avoid a HPT this weekend. They can usually do more harm than good in these situations. I have everything crossed for you! I can't wait to hear the good news. You transferred two right?

Kelly~ Enjoy Tahoe. Are you going to ski?? Too much ice - don't even think about it. Leave that to the unpregnant people like myself. You need to stop thinking miscarriage and start thinking twins!! Your numbers seem high and I have been following you other post - definitely seems like a possibility. I am glad you did another acupuncture session. Those are such a great time!! I just wish they were a bit cheaper! How are you feeling? Any symptoms yet?

Are you still out there Alicia? How are you feeling? Did you find an OB?

Amy,
No real symptoms. I have more of a heaviness in my lower abdomen at times and just some weird feelings. I think I would feel better if I did have symptoms. I know with my daughter, I didn't start having nausea symptoms until about 7 weeks. I will only be considered 5 weeks on Monday.

No skiing for me. Not even sledding. I am going to have to find someone else to sled with my daughter as my husband and step daughter are going to be skiing. We are staying with 4 other families that all have kids, so it will be busy just with them all playing.

Don't remind me of the cost of acupuncture. Dr Cherry recommends if you are pregnant to keep with the acupuncture every week for the first trimester and then once a month until you deliver. We don't have the money for it, but I know myself, and if I was to have a miscarriage and didn't do it, I would always wonder if it wouldn't have happened if I had kept with the acupuncture. So, I'm going to continue. I may try to space it out a little more, like every week and 1/2 to cost down on the cost a little.

Kelly, don’t worry things will go well for you. I understand what you mean about how it seems that so many people are having miscarriages, but just know that you will not be one of them. Tahoe sounds relaxing but cold… especially since it has been so cold in Sac. Bundle up well!!! Thank you for the well wishes!

Amy, I am cracking up about the old people at Quest, it is funny because my acupuncturist is in the same building that I get my blood drawn at (Scripps) and it is ALWAYS filled with old people. So I will call and figure out what is the earliest I can get there, I am sure I won’t be able to sleep Sunday night anyways, so I might as well start the day early! We did transfer two, so I am hoping at least one stuck :) As for the HPT, it is glaring at me in the face, so I will try to be strong…

Kelly~

How was your weekend? I hope relaxing and calm. I do remember the heavy feelings... especially the bloatedness in the beginning. Hated it then, but had no idea how much I would pay to feel that way again. When is your first scan? Any appointments this week?

Denise ~

I know you are probably NOT sleeping right now, but I have to ask... did you cave and take the HPT? I hope you are planning your route to Scripps and ready to push and shove your way in at 7am! I can't wait to hear your results.

I am calling the tax lady tomorrow so I can get the ball rolling and see if we end up with any IVF money. It is killing me that so many are getting pregnant and I just want to be a part of it all!

I will be checking all day to find your results Denise!

Amy, surprisingly I did not cave, I have to have faith in God for this one, so I am using that as my justification to not take a HPT early, but MAN is it hard. I told DH that I was going to have a pee party when I get back from getting my blood drawn. I have a few expired tests (they expired last month), so I was going to use them as soon as I got back and no matter what they say, I will still have to wait for the clinic to call, because the results most likely will not be accurate. I am silly I know. It is just after all that we went through I would hate to waste HPT tests (even expired ones) because they have had such a control over my emotions for the last few months. LOL

I will post as soon as I know anything, but if it is BFN, I may throw a pity party after the pee party.

Well, I got the call, it is a BFP! The HCG levels are low at 13, but I will take that! It is more than I have ever had!!! I am so happy, I am going to do my happy dance. On Wednesday, I retest and they expect the numbers to at least double by then so it will be a strong result. Please pray for me.

Denise,
yeah, congrats. That's great news. I will definitely be praying for you. Keep us posted.

Well, my numbers went up to 5590. It has been 10 days, and I calculated out that to double every 2 days, the number should have been 7872. I was a little concerned but the nurse didn't seem to be concerned. I have my u/s Monday next week. Wish me luck.

K-rose, do not worry about the numbers not doubling, they may double, but it is more common for them to "just increase". At that strong, you are good to go! :D

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Great job Denise. You retest again on Wednesday??

Kelly ~ I don't think that they continue to double at that rate... have you researched that? I think you should not worry and get in there for an ultrasound! I can't wait to hear how many!

Amy, yes, we were set to retest no matter what the results were. I am nervous, but still thinking positive :)
