Lab Errors

Post by geckogirl »

I am new to this forum and have a question for all of you who have gone through this. I had my retrieval on Sunday and on Monday was informed that I had 4 eggs that fertilized. Today when I came in for the transfer I was informed that there was only one left because of a lab error and that the other three had been lost! I am beside myself with heartache. Being older - 42- the chances of success with only one egg is so slim. Has anyone else had problems with the labs?

geckogirl: Wow. I am so sorry! I can't imagine what that must feel like to have them ruin 3 embryos. i assume your clinic will be giving you compensation in regards to another cycle if this one is a bfn? Well, hopefully that won't be an issue. I am happy for you that you were able to have one healthy embryo transferred. Lots of women get preg w/just one embryo, and i am hoping that for you. Good luck!

OMG .....

I cant beleive that! Im so sorry this happened to u hun, have u spoken to the DR about ur next cycle (if u need another one, after all u only need one to get a BFP) surley they would give u the next one free of charge, and if nothing else at least try and compensate u for the heartache u are going thru right now - this is terrible!!

I will pray so hard that u get ur BFP, take care and keep us updated - when do u test etc????

Thanks for all the support. My doctor is great and the lab manager was very sorry. Yes, they did offer me another cycle free of charge if I don't get pregnant this time. I am glad but just so sad about the loss. I am just trying not to cry all the time. This has been just so hard.

well I must say atleast they accepted their fault unlike our clinic where the
embrologists are very rude and not at ll empathetic to patient's feelings

Our doctor was shocked and the embryologists were VERY sorry and even one of the nurses who cared for me during the retrieval looked as if she had tears in her eyes when we left. I have been assured that I will get a free cycle (but as yet have received nothing in writing). I was hoping that it wouldn't be an issue but here I am 9dp3dt and have total AF cramps - you know those deep ones that come just before. Oh well, I am trying not to be too depressed. I am testing on the 20th but have a feeling that AF will get here first. Thanks for all your support! I will keep you posted....

Geckogirl,

You poor girlie. I know been compensated at least allows you try again but really the trauma you must have felt over what happened. IVF is so hard but to have this happen is beyond belief. I really hope that you get your BFP next week. God knows you deserve it.

Don't worry too much about AF cramps. I had them for the last few days before test and I still have them on and off now and I'm nearly 6 weeks.
It feels exactly the same as AF.

Best of luck with that BFP.

Thanks Auntie and Lisa for the reassurance about the cramping. I feel a little more calm although they are getting worse... I am just trying to keep a PMA and hope that I make it to the beta testing on Tuesday. Only three more days to wait! And at least I know that we will be trying again very soon if it is negative.

Wishing you all the best of luck for your BFPs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
