I am on day 6 of my stimulation protocal (going through my first IVF cycle in the Czech Republic). I had my first ultrasound yesterday and the doctor counted 10 follicles. I was a little disappointed with this result - hoping we would have more than 10 eggs to work with.
I heard that the doctors can't typically see all the follicles on the first scan and that I would almost certainly end up with more. Can anyone share their experiences? How many follicles did your first scan show, second scan and what did you end up with? I know everyone is different but anyone that share would help me have some peace of mind.
I am sure I am not the only one worrying over every little detail of their IVF cycle (knowing that time will tell if I could just be patient). But, considering how busy I have always found myself to be, I have managed to find lots of time to worry about things these days! LOL!
The first numbers I got back were 7 on one side and ten on the other but at time of retrieval I had 46 good eggs and only three arrested. I didn't expect that many in the beginning but with every visit they would tell me I had more and more.
So don't be alarmed or worried. It sounds like things are going well for you. I wish you the very best of luck!!!

Wow - 37 eggs! That is amazing! So you basically got double the number of eggs to follicles they had seen in the first scan. That would be great for us!
Thank you for sharing and good luck with your recent transfer!
Hi Julie
I would be really pleased with 10 follies on your 1st scan. This is my second IVF and the first time I only had 2 eggs and this time only 3. My clinic said 8-10 eggs is what they look for, and remember, its all about quality not quantity.
Good luck!

Thanks for the encouraging words! My second scan still showed 10 follicles and the egg collection is tomorrow. Fingers crossed that I gets lots of good, quality eggs (however many that may be!). We'll know tomorrow!!
All the best,

Good luck Julie. I've laso been told that I only have 10 and was also disappointed, reading everyones responses has made me feel a bit more optimistic. I'm hoping to have the retrieval on Thursday this week. Let me know how you get on, will think about you rebecca
My results ended up being rather disappointing but I think my case was an exception rather than a rule. I did have 10 follicles and ultimately, the doctor retrieved 5 eggs (of which only 3 eggs were mature). 2 Eggs were fertilized and those embryos were transfered last Monday.
It seems that is more common for their to end up being more eggs than the initial follicle count so I am hoping that you get plenty to work with! I'll keep you in my thoughts!

just had day 10 scan this morning and 10 follicles have doubled to 20! feeling much happier. Retrieval Thursday or friday this week. good luck with your collection, let us know how you get on! x
Julie_h - Have no fear. My five eggs only produced one fertilized egg and I still got PG. In fact she is kicking the laptop as I am writing. Anything can happen, that is why it is called the miracle of life.
Agree with cmoscar! I had 13 follies, but they only got 3 eggs. They all 3 fertilized and I transfered 2 8-cells and 1 6-cell. I'm pregnant with one now. My second cycle, I transferred 5 embies and still got a bfn - - it's all in the quality of the eggs, not the quantity. I used to hear that all lot on these boards and think, 'yeah right'....but now I'm a believer too!
