Making a big step (to me anyway)

Post by madiva »

Hello all,
Colin will be 4 months on the 20th of February and I am still keeping him in his bassenet next to my bed. I hold his hand every night and I just can't seem to move him in his own bed in a different room. I say that he is going to sleep in his bed every day, but when night time gets here its a totaly different story. How did y'all make the BIG move. lol

Hi Madiva
It's definatley a hard thing to do my Ds slept in a bassinette next to me for the first two months and then made the step to his own room. I started by putting him in his own room in his cot during the day instead of his bassinette which we dragged around the house to where ever we were. at the same time we sset up the monitor system so i could carry it with me so I could hear him where ever i was and after a few days of doing this we made the change . the first night I couldnt sleep and if i did it was in short spurts and i usually woke thinking that I could hear him crying and then when I was awake which was most of the night I spent it walking all the way down the other end of the house checking on him to see if he was still sleeping which of course he was and after the millionth time of walking down I thought this is a joke he's been sleeping contently everytime ive gone down to check him why am I so worried so yes the first couple of nights were a bit sleepless for me that is DS slept just fine infact he slept better in his own room. Have you thought about a monitor so you can hear him i know it made it easier for us. something to consider if colin is 4 months now he must be getting close to rolling and i would rather have him transitioned to his own cot before he really needs to before it becomes unsafe for him to sleep in his bassinette and you have to move him with out that transitiion time . have you thought of taking his bassinette into his room to sleep that way he has the security of his bassinette while getting use to his new surrounds and then moving him to his cot once use to his room. and if your really worried you could try sleeping in the room with him for the first couple of nights until you see he is just fine. i was told to sleep with a soft teddy for a week or so to get my smell on the bear and then put the bear in Ds's cot with him so he can be comforted by thinking i was close by.
Anyway i'm sure little colin will adjust just fine if you need anymore suggestions just ask. let us know how you go

take care Jomaexxx

I think the transition for him is no big deal. Its me, I put him in his own bed around 8:00 and at around 10:00 when I go to bed I get him and put him in hid bassenet next to me. I had him in his bed last night and was watching and hearing on the moniter. I even took his basenet down but ofcorse I go get him at 11:30 and put him in his swing and I slept on the sofa next to him. When DH woke up to find me sleeping on the sofa and Colin in the swing he was shaking his head. I told him I know that I am ridiculous and can't help it. He made a good point and said that if this was so hard for me I can only imagine what you are going to be like when he goes to school and other things. I told him I am going to home school him and that he can never leave the house without me. I am just joking, but does not seem like a bad idea. lol I will get there sooner or later. (I think)

Madiva, my twins are 4 1/2 months old and still in the basinette in my room too. And just like you, most days I say "ok, maybe today I'll move them into their room", but then I never do. It's funny how the big move it such a big deal to us. You're right though...imagine when they go school. Oh boy, I can't even think about that. I want them to stay little!!!

Lol, just wait until they are too big to fit in your bassinet. Then you have no choice. I started the transition by putting them to bed with me, then after a night feed I would bring them to their own cribs. Easier for me to get used to.

Hi Ladies,

My twins are still in the room with me at almost 4 mths///it's hard, one of my boys has a problem when he spits up, it comes out of his nose which requires me to suction him immediatly so that he can breathe...until he's over that, they will be in our room. This is our 4th & 5th child, all stayed in our room for at least 5 mths

Well I did it. He has slept in his own bed for the last 2 nights. He did well, me on the other hand I did not sleep the 1st night. I made the DH set the alarm every 2 hours. Last night I woke up on my own every 2-3 hours, but felt more comfortable. I guess it will get easier. I can see and hear him on my moniter and I sleep with it next to me lol. I just really miss him holding my finger at night. Boy this is just the beginning. Now I just worry about his Circumsism. He what is called Hyperspadius (how ever you spell it) and could not be Circumcised when he was born. They will do it when he is 6 months and they need to put him to sleep for it. So that is another big worry for me. Does it ever stop. I thought being pg was a big worry, but that was a breeze compared.
