Hi, on my one and only egg collection we did 50% ivf and 50% ICSI. 7 out of the 8 ICSI's fertilised and 1 out of the 8 IVF fertilised....

We devloped to blast stage and ended up with four blasts, 3 of which were the ICSI ones...

Hope that helps. Fee

I got pregnant with my daughter in 03 on my first ISCI cycle. After fertilization we had 4 eggs (all blastocysts). We transferred 2 and got pregnant with a singleton. The others stalled so we could not freeze.

Good luck

hi again mmc!
we're doing ICSI- don't know if i told you in my pm's. our calendar got moved around a bit- we're starting stims on monday 19th if all goes ok with the u/s. then er on 3/1 and et 3/4 or 3/6. I'll let you know mid march if we had a bfp with icsi on first try!

ps- have you started your shots yet? I know you were dreading them. me too! my dh gave me the 1st 2 days of lupron since i didn't have the nerve to do it myself but since we don't know his schedule and when the hcg is due- i figured i better at least learn in case i need to give it to myself. i did it on tues by myself (and left a huge black and blue because i didn't know how much pressure) and yesterday by myself without a hitch. this will be my 5th night of lupron tonight.

Hi,
I'm 37 and in our case, it was a male factor also (poor morphology and poor motility). Be positive! IVF/ICSI worked for us on our first try! I had 11 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized. We did 3day transfer. Of the 7, 5 were 8-cells with a fairly good grade. We were only going to put 3 back in but decided to go a bit aggressive and put all 5 back in. I was a nervous wreck during 2ww and didn't really think it was going to work cuz I heard so many times that it doesn't really work on 1st cycle. Well, I got a BFP! Our beta numbers were really strong (it actually tripled rather than doubled). Our first u/s will be on the 25th...waiting to see how many! So like I said, be positive!!!! :D

ICSI numbers

Post by mmc »

Hi Girls,

We start next Saturday on stims so around March 10th or so we should be doing the transfer. Another question to anyone who wants to weigh in... i am really unsure about how many embies to transfer (in the case that there are more than 1 Blasts!) I don't really want a multiple pregnancy but having said that I also do not want to go through this again if I can avoid it. Anyone have any advise or thoughts or experiences that they would like to share???

MMC & NN7
I'm 33 and in our case, it was a male factor also.
Our first go with IVF/ICSI was in 2004 and in 2005 we had our DS. We collected 7 eggs only 4 fertilized and then on ET day only 2 were good to transfer. From our two our DS was born.
I am now on day 39 of a new cycle to have another baby. We are not sure if we will be replacing one or two this time???
Any other questions ask away I will keep note of this post....

CHERUBMAY,
wow you put 5 back in - in Australia we can only put two back in ??? Good luck gr8t to hear you are BFP...would love to hear how your scan goes...

Hi Everyone, Rainbow thanks for your reply. I live in NSW Australia and am with one ivf clinic and my SI is with the other i believe they are the 2 best. But with her treatment she did not take the bcp's :? , i know everyone is different but their situation was male factor very similar to our's. Did you take the bcp?

I also talked to the IVF nurse about putting 2 in when we get there (trying to think positive since its not long before we start) but she said they would like to try 1 first due to the amount of twins in my family. Because there's a higher chance of twins doing IVF anyway.

WOW cherubmay how exciting keep us up to date with the u/s and thanks everyone for sharing your stories its really helping to move forward. If anything its making me a little anxious(good anxious) because i cant wait to be were you guys are :) .

ICSI worked great for us! It was recommended because I was young (although have horrible endo) and my doctor didn't want to increase the risk of multiples. Now it's pretty much the standard at my clinic. We have a healthy, beautiful 4 year old boy now. There are a few risks being debated about ICSI, but most are unfounded/unproven. I got pregnant the very first time we used it. Good Luck!

Hi everyone,
really interesting posts, I am starting first ICSI cycle on Tuesday 20 Feb, my partner had sperm retirieval surgery last April and we have seven batches frozen (although I HOPE we won't have to use them all)

We had decided that if all goes well we would only have one emby transferred, but have been wondering whether to up this to two? really unsure what to do, partner says this is ultimately my descision (he is happy to do 1 or 2) but wish soneone could help me make it.. My cousin had 4 1/2 years of treatment and had twins last September, they are completely gorgeous but hard work....

Good luck all, only recently found this site and find it incredible just how many people in the same position are out there, positive stories are so encouraging..

hello, hope you don't mind if i join in, I've been reading the posts and found it really useful....

We had our 1st IVF in Oct 06 which resulted in a BFP first time but unfortunately m/c. We had 6 eggs and only 2 fert therefore this time round my RE said that he wanted to do ICSI to increase our chances of fert rates. Has anyone else needed to do this??

He said that he couldn't pin point it to either a male or female problem although as 2 did fert likely to be me and that my eggs maybe a little 'hard' so ICSI will give them the helping hand they need. (I personally think I was over done!! as I needed to continue my stims for an extra week)

I'm a little apprehensive about ICSI as have also read all the risks so it is reassuring to read yr comments.

Cherubmay - by law in the UK you can only put 2 back, sometimes if yr over 40 they may consider 3)

I did ICSI this summer and I am now in my 8th month of pregnancy. It was my first round of fertility treatment. Mine was also a male factor which I think helped but that does not mean it would not have happened if it were a female factor. Anyhow, if you want more details, I would be happy to share them with you.
