Scared about Ectopic

Post by Ems1971 »

Hi ladies

I have been experiencing twinges low down on my right hand side for the past few days. Its not painful, but just niggling. I am now worrying about ectopic pregnancy. My 1st scan isn't until next Fri (2nd March). I keep telling myself everything will be fine but its in the back of my mind. Can anyone help?

I have never had an ectopic but I have had a lot of different twinging throughout this pregnancy. Very different from my first pregnancy, maybe it has something to do with IVF pregnancy. I would say it probably is ok and what I have read on here normal. If they did a vaginal transfer I wouldnt think it could be extopic as they place the embryos in the uterus. If it was a lap tubal I would say it could be possible but unlikely.
Hang in there..

Ems,

From what I hear about ectopic pregnancies is that the pain is very sharp in the area of the hips and then shoots up the body to the shoulders (on the same side).

I understand your concern though. I have twinges there too sometimes and I have been concerned about it earlier on. It is a risk of IVF pregnancies due to the fact that the embryos have more time floating about and sometimes head up the tubes but I believe the pain is so severe you will know for sure. I honestly don't believe that is whats happening honey.

Anyway, on a positive note..1 week to go before your scan.. you are so lucky. I don't have mine until the following Wednesday. The wait is killing me.

I'm not a doctor, but from what I understand, these twinges in early IVF pregnancies are caused by your ovaries shrinking back down. Remember that they had to make them the size of grapefruits and now that have to shrink back down to the size of almonds. I had twinges too, and I even called my RE about them, but he told me it was normal.

Hope that helps you feel a little better. Enjoy your pregnancy and your scan - it's wonderful seeing the little bean on the screen.

Hi,

I had an eptopic my 1st ivf attempt in july 06. I had like 48 eggs and my ovaries defintely were sore. I had a lot of twinges and discomfort from that. The feeling that I had from my tube was distinctly on one side and sharp and painful, different from everything else I was feeling. When it got bad it almost felt like a throbbing pain. I also felt a lot of pressure on my behind which is another sign.

I've heard your tubes are like the size of a hair and as the pregnancy progresses that growing baby is expanding it. Mine felt worse each week so that's another thing to think about. Is yours getting more severe? I finally had one awful night where the pain was almost unbearable. I'm lucky it didn't burst. Another thing to think about is your hcg. Mine was a 24 and then 48 hours later was only a 26. Then two weeks later it was 836. Eptopics have slow starting hcgs. Anyway, hoped that helped. Good luck with your u/s coming up. Mine is the day before and I'm so excited as you are I'm sure!

I also had an ectopic and my pain was so severe I couldn't do a thing! Since becoming PG I have had some light cramping here and there and little pulls and tugs from an expanding uteris but NOTHING like ectopic pain!

Literally, with the ectopic, I could hardly bare the pain and it did get worse and worse while my numbers were growing slowly. Not to mention your Dr. would be really concerned with your numbers. Mine had me taking my numbers every other day for almost two weeks.

Hopefully you are just fine! I'll be thinking of you and hoping that you are well! Take care!!

EMS1971 - You might want to ask them to do an u/s now. With an u/s they can confirm if the pregnancy is on the uterus or not. When it comes to eptopics, there is a chance of it killing not only the baby, but you as well. If you are experiencing a lot of pain, just go in. When I was only19, I had a lot of pain oin my left side and made and appoint with my GYN. At the time, I was married, but we were using two forms of protetion. I had no idea I was even pregnant. I lost that tube and was very ill for a long time. Trust your body, if it doesn't feel right, call you RE right away.

Good luck

EMS,

My 1st pregnancy thru IVF was Ectopic. The symptoms I experienced were extreme pain on my left side, bleeding, low HCG scores and my HCG stopped doubling. When I complained of pain they did an u/s in which they saw an empty sac in my uterus. They sent me home telling me I was miscarrying. When I returned a week later my abdomen was filled with blood and I had emergency surgery.

During my current pregnancy I felt all sorts of mild pains and twitched on my left side, right side and in the middle. I was terrified I was having another ectopic, thank goodness it wasn't and I have had a totally normal pregnancy. I truly believe that mild pains in the abdomen are completely normal.

Good luck to you!! :D

I also have been having twinges and mild pain to my right side & I talked myself into thinking it was an ectopic. It was not ectopic. Like the others have said, the pain is likely to be unbearable if it was an ectopic.

Hi ladies, just read this post as i am concerned of ectopic,my first beta at 12 days past 2day transfer was 13.2, 2nd beta 2 days later 12.5 not enough of a decrease to stop meds, i re test on Monday which will be 19 dp2dt, i am getting the occasional pain/twinge on my right side, not very painful but noticeable, i will mention at clinic on Monday,.

I just wanted to ask at how far into the pregnancy your pain was so bad, or did it increase steadily, would you be concerned at 5 weeks in?

thank you all for your time as you can see my last go was bio-chemical and the doctor thinks this one is also, if it is i will have further tests as we thought it was just male factor.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping I'm just over-reacting but I've had a pinching/stabbing pain in the same spot on my far left side over and over again for nearly the last 24 hrs.

I saw what some of you wrote about HCG being low. Mine was very high from my first test and has continued to more than double every two days.

I had an early u/s on 2/26 - they saw the gestatsional sac and the yolk sac in the uterus - said I have my next u/s on 3/5 where they expect a heartbeat.

I'm wondering if maybe it could be twins, but one is stuck in my tube? I'm driving myself nuts with worry.

Anyone ever hear of this happening?
Thanks!
Karen
