Steph, the first acu session I had I actually thought the acupuncturist would have me undressed and I was a bit disappointed that she didn't. I thought that's how it's supposed to be (fr. pics that I've seen)She just made me roll my pant legs and lower my pants from the waist.

Anyway, the needles were in my ankles, lower legs (calf area) and lower belly and both wrists. I go for my second session on Wednesday.

Mandeeq, sorry about your scan...I hope it builds up for the next one. Good luck!

Vicky, I'll do that AF jig for you! Hope it comes on time this time! Same goes for you STeph!

Marcia, hope you'll feel better soon! Drink lots of fluids and rest!

As for me, I'm feeling much better after my hysteroscopy. Actually, I never really had any pain or soreness afterwards. Thanks for all your well wishes, guys! I'm on day 4 of Lupron and so far so good. I haven't really noticed anything different. Dh says I must be on Lupron all my life because it's supposedly could give you bad tempers . I have noticed being more exhausted though...or maybe i've been working too much!

Just saw Babel and The Departed last night...Great flicks!

Have a great weekend everyone!

just had a though - does anyone know if accu is advisable during the 2ww??

Welcome, JackieG!!

About acu during the 2WW, I just happened to read a magazine article about that at my doctor's office the other day. The article covered studies conducted around the world concerning the role of acupuncture during IVF treatment. It seems that studies quite agree on acu being helpful right before/after the transfer, but there's not a lot of evidence that it would make any difference after that (one study even claimed that it might be harmful). But I know many acupuncturists advocate it during the 2WW as well.

I would definitely ask my doctor about this, as there doesn't seem to be clear evidence of it being helpful later on and some are even claiming otherwise.

found this about acupuncture and thought it would interest the ladies who are having it Women undergoing fertility treatment could have their chances of success boosted by acupuncture.
German researchers said they have increased success rates by almost 50% in women having in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

The theory is that acupuncture can affect the autonomic nervous system, which is involved in the control of muscles and glands, and could therefore make the lining of the uterus more receptive to receiving an embryo.

But the scientists admit they do not know for certain why the complementary therapy helped, and plan to carry out more studies in a bid to find out.

If these findings are confirmed, they may help us improve the odds for our IVF patients achieving pregnancy

Dr. Sandra Carson, American Society of Reproductive Medicine
Fertility techniques are used to help couples who cannot conceive naturally.

The theory of acupuncture is based on pathways called meridians. Research has shown it can help relieve nausea caused by anaesthetics during surgery or chemotherapy and to relieve dental pain.

It may also help relieve other conditions including headaches and menstrual cramps.

'A useful tool'

A report published in the journal Fertility and Sterility found the pregnancy rate in the group receiving acupuncture group was 42.5%, compared to the group which did not receive the therapy, where the rate was 26.3%.

The German researchers worked with doctors at the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, China.

Of 160 women undergoing IVF, half received standard in vitro fertilisation, while half were given acupuncture treatments before and after.

The researchers chose acupuncture points which traditional Chinese medicine says relax the uterus.

They also used needles to stimulate meridians involving the spleen, stomach and colon, to improve blood flow and create "more energy in the uterus."

Key relaxation points were also stimulated.

The research team, led by Dr. Wolfgang Paulus and colleagues at the Christian-Lauritzen-Institut in Ulm, Germany, wrote in the journal: "Acupuncture seems to be a useful tool for improving pregnancy rate after assisted reproductive techniques.

They add: "To rule out the possibility that acupuncture produces only psychological or psychosomatic effects, we plan to use a placebo needle set as a control in a future study."

Such a study would involve people having needles inserted in the same way as in acupuncture, but not at the acupuncture points.

Dr. Sandra Carson, president-elect of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, which publishes the journal, said: "If these findings are confirmed, they may help us improve the odds for our (in vitro fertilisation) patients' achieving pregnancy."

:

Hi there

Thanks for sharing the info. It's the exact same reason why I started having Acu afrer one of my m/c's and it really sorted out my cycles. It was a total mess after the EP and wouldn't regulate itself. Since then I started having it on and off over the past 2 years, but mainly to help with any injectables cycles I was having. I couldn't go to my usual therapist as she's just had a baby, she knew all about fertility points, but refered me to a friend of her's and that's the acu fertilty specialist we're with now.

The Acupuncture clinic I'm at now is owned by a lady that specialises in acu for IVF and it's totally based around whatever a womans IVF programme. So we're hoping we're as luck as all her other patients that she's helped to get pg. She's got one that's pg at the moment, it's been aout a month for her, she was waiting to find out about another lady, and one lady had her 1st IVF and gave birth to twins in December, so no doubt she's the best one to be with :D . We said years ago that whenever we get pg again, we'd have acu throughout the pg, as I can't get past a few weeks, or nearly 2 months, and we know it's good to help your body sustain a pg, and I've seen women on tv that didn't have meds during labour, just acu and a little gas and air if needed.

Great to read all that info again though, just makes me even more confident that we've made the right decision :D .

I've not been upto much. Went to work, went veggie shopping as we were out of stuff like potatoes, carrots, kale for the guinea pigs. Then we went to the pet shop for some sawdust and treats and thought lets buy Toby our hamster a new cage. Then saw this beautiful Syrian hamster and bought him as well lol. So we now have our own menagerie of pets.

Gizmo my first ever pet, who's 4 this December - a Dutch dwarf. He was a rescue rabbit I had Xmas eve 2004, 2 days after a failed Injectables cycle so he was my first 'baby' and was about 18 months old at the time and tiny. We had 3 days to read up on how to look after a rabbit, learn all about the medical side of things, food, cleaning and was extremely exciting, as thought remembering to pack everything for a holiday. It was an exciting and mad few days before Xmas eve. Poor little thing was getting picked on by his sisters.
Image

Then we had a chocolate brown, black and tan Rex Agouti Guinea pig named Fudge in June 2005 at 12 weeks old, but he sadly past away aged ten months old Christmas 2005  .
Imageand the other side Image
He's buried in the garden in the new piggie house we'd bought him for Cristmas but never got to use. We pun him in with his fave treats and bedding he used to use.

Then by August we'd certainly got the pet bug, and needed to get a friend for Fudge, so we bought Panda, a Dutch dwarf Guinea pig at 10 weeks, and he's nearly 2 years old.
Then, in hubby's shirt pocket Image now Image.

In the Jan 2006 Panda was really lost without Fudge so the plan was to get another boy for him to play with, but we fell in love with these 12 week old Silver agouti rex twin girls, and they'd adopted a white Abyssinian cross 12 week old sister. We decided to buy the 3 as we couldn't split them up, and their health can deteriate if they're depressed or on their own. There was no way we could split the twins up, and it would be a shame to leave the baby one on her own.

So this is Honey
Image

Biscuit
Image

And Cotton
Image

September we bought a Russian Winter White hamster we named Toby. They're called that because in the winter if it's cold enough they go totally white, and there's 3 shades you can buy. Toby is Saphire because his fur is a blue grey shade on top, and I'd bought a new gemstone Ring called Tobadralite which is a blue shade, so that's how the name came about.
Image

And this is little Eddie we bought today. He's 9 weeks old and black and white with a brown patch in the crown of his head. We did start to call him Smudge because the shop assistant love the 'Smudge' of brown on his head she was saying. But that's too close to Fudge. He was snuggle in my arms here at home as I went to put him back in back he jump in. So hubby said we should call him Van Halen who wrote the song Jump lol. I asked him what the lead singer's name was, and he said Eddie, so that's what's we've decided...Eddie (smudge Van Halen) to keep the old man happy.
